Suspect we will move back in round 1 this year to secure and additional late first/early second. That's how a F2 ends up being a current 1st. Unlikely this year's picks involved.

Turn this year's 10 and next year's ~30
into
This year's 15 and one of 18/19

Depends on who is available at 10 obviously.
Yeah, something like that could happen for sure.
Think we'd be trying to involve our 3rd (which I don't see us using if we can find an extra top 30 pick) for an F3.

This makes sense, sounds like there more could be a couple of bolters eg Allan which could create the conditions for Hollands to be there at 15 - who we likely would taken anyway.

I have no idea what purpose the Victorian, Wa or SA clubs have in having NGA academies, I don’t see them lasting

They are complete BS.

A contrived gift to shut up the Eddie Macguires of the world who would piss and moan about the northern state academies.

Lots of FIGJAMs work out just fine. Most elite athletes have this characteristics. I’m a basketball guy, Michael Jordan had it in spades! Kobe, Shan, Wilt, Bird, Magic et al. All FIGJAMs.

Those guys you listed are top 10 players of all time. Would almost be strange if they weren't FIGJAMs.

They were so good, they were dominating the league in their first seasons (often as a 22/23yo after playing 4 years of college*). They were already national superstars when drafted

An elite junior Aussie rules player is joining at 18yo and is in most cases at the bottom of the totem pole at his AFL club.

I agree that a degree of confidence/arrogance is almost needed in elite sport, but in AFL you need enough humility to realise you are no longer top dog at AFL level and you basically need to prove yourself from scratch.

* inb4 someone points out Kobe was drafted out of high school.

Also, I know ShanDog is like 6 foot 5 and can probably ball, but I think Shaq just might have him covered.... :p

For some reasons, I don’t like Hollands at #10, but if we were to trade for two GWS/ Sydney picks then I can accept almost any top 20/30 draftees

My preference is still a tall & small though

It depends what we mean by arrogant, I think a lot of us use the term very broadly. Arrogant I take as someone who thinks they are better and know better then everyone else, which may mean they aren’t as coachable or likeable.
Someone like Danger I have never heard a bad word about him from a coaching point of view or from teammates and he would also give more time to the average Joe then 99% of footballers would. He also thinks he is top $hit.
I believe that there's a tendency to conflate arrogance with confidence.
By definition, arrogance is not a positive attribute, it's something that the likes of Jordan & Kobe had to work on in order to function in a team environment & ultimately achieve the success that they desired.

What we classify as arrogance here in Australia is merely classified as confidence in America, especially in the sporting landscape.

It’s why Australian sportspersons never trash talk opponents in the media whilst in the US it’s far more prevalent.

For every Diesel there's a Stocker - high draft pick who was too up himself and never wanted to improve his aerobic capacity, who gets delisted after 4 years.

I think there's a difference between being confident and being a FIGJAM, Phillipou strikes me as the latter.
Totally agree that confidence and arrogance are two very different things. Consider Motlop. He seems to have plenty of self-confidence to back himself on the field despite being only a first year player, but he doesn't come across as arrogant at all.
