This was harder than I thought…
But here we go… with 1 eye on future so getting games into our next premiership team…

B: Ruscoe Howe Maynard

HB: Quaynor Moore Crisp

C: Josh.D Adams Nick.D

HF: Reef Mihochek Beau

F: Cameron Elliott Sidey

Foll: Grundy Lipinski DeGoey

Inter: Pendlebury WHE McCrae W.Kelly/Krueger

Unlucky but not Far away…
Poulter, Henry, Ginnivan, Bianco.
Experienced depth…
Roughead, Cox
Depth….
C.Brown, T.Brown, J.Noble, J.Madgen.

Would like to see…. Chugg come in a free up Maynard for more Midfield minutes. Ash Johnson to see what he can do.
Pressure on Sidey and WHE to perform this year and keep there place. Predicting Finals and beating some of the better teams.. maybe 1 win in September but I am an optimist and consistency may be a problem and of course injuries.
need roughead at FB, this lineup is off imo

benching roughead to give youth a chance and then playing sidebottom who had a stinker of a season last season and out of all the older players is most droppable imo, benching henry ginnivan bianco, yeah nah needs some tinkering, if you really wanna develop youth then put them in the side but howe is not a FB, that just sorta triggers me seeing that backline

wow.. You must be one of the very few that does not have Ollie starting.

But yes, its hard to name a side isn't it? lol I have to adjust mine once a month because things change, and you want to play everyone but thats impossible.
Really wanted to get Henry in and he will get his chance but I’ve put the bigger bodied Krueger/W.Kelly in instead. And on reflection I kind of want all 3 in 🤪

Probably right… on reflection no real lockdown key-defender😖. I just don’t think playing both Howe and Roughead will help our development. Maybe W.Kelly can step up in defence? (Even though reported training as a forward😖) Alas there is Charlie Dean who I’ve left off the original post….
Sidey in on reputation only… let’s hope he can turn it around… new coach and all that.
Either way exciting times for pies fans … not sure what to expect with a new coaching team except that we can only go up on last year… just how much?

Dean Roughead Quaynor
N.Daicos Moore Howe
J.Daicos Lippa Reef
Ginniven Mihocek Elliott
Johnson Krueger Henry

Grundy Adams Pendles

Int. Cameron DeGoey Sidey Crisp
Maynard?
Also a forward line with Mihocek, Krueger, Johnson and Cameron rotating in looks a little top heavy. Although maybe Johnson and Krueger are more athletic then most big men.

yeah, just putting out something different, I have to find a spot for Maynard, this is my round one team but more than likely it will include the Brown Bros, Magden and WHE

Howe Roughead Maynard
Quaynor Moore Pendlebury
J. Daicos Adams Sidebottom
Henry Mihocek De Goey
Elliott Cameron Ginnivan
Grundy Lipinski Crisp
N. Daicos Hoskin-Elliott Macrae Ruscoe

This is probably as close as it could end up

But tbh, I wouldn't be shocked to see Cox picked going from he is usually in team A.

FB: Maynard Roughead Quaynor
HB: Pendles Moore Howe
C: J.Daicos Lippa Poulter
HF: De Goey Mihocek Elliott
FF: Ginnivan Krueger Henry

Fill: Grundy, Adams, Crisp

Int. Cox, N.Daicos, Sidebottom, Macrae/ Reef

Dean would be my immediate inclusion if any of Roughead, Moore or Howe didn’t play.

Ruscoe would be my replacement for N.Daicos & Pendles.

I’d play Cox as the main KPF & 2nd ruck. Cameron can play if we only need a 2nd ruckman (ie Vardy or Lycett style).

McCreey would be my replacement for Elliot, Ginni & Henry. McCreey, Ginni & Henry are so unique but very important to the team.

Just think we lack midfield depth if Crisp, JDG & Maynard don’t pick up their midfield game this year.

List is an awkward spot, ideally you wish we could play at least 4 more kids per game. Reef, Bianco, McCreey, Ruscoe to name a few.

There's about a dozen certs, and at the beginning of the season, the next 10 should come from whoever

a) has had the best pre-season
b) best understands and follows the new game plan

God (or perhaps Jen2310) knows who that is.
Shall we go through the certainties?

Grundy.
Adams.
Elliott
Moore
Roughy
Maynard
Howe
Pendles
Sidebottom
IQ
Mihochek
De Goey
J.Daicos
Crisp

Bit more than 10.

Lippa as 99.99% you can get
N.Daicos -- see above
WHE

= 17

6 more.

Either Cox/Cameron
Henry
Ginnivan/Bianco/McCreery (one or two will play)
Macrae
Reef

In the mix:

Poulter, Noble, Ruscoe, browns (Cal in particular, but the two are different type of mids from one another)

I'd like to see Chugg on the bench at some point during the season, rotate with IQ

I agree with your 14, which isn't far off "about a dozen".

With the 3 below, if Lippa and Daicos have become certs, it's been off the back of their preseasons and to me WHE is one who should need to show through his running patterns that he gets the game plan, as how the team and individuals perform is going to come down to how much they are all on the same page (as well as it being a good page), as much as it comes down to individual talents.

Do you think Cox plays ahead of Cameron, or are they finding a spot for both?
Would be nice if they play both. I mean, otherwise.. its the same kind of set up as previous years. As Based on 2021, Cameron should be given first go, but Cox has also been good this pre-season too.

Wouldn’t we rather Cox/Cameron, Kreuger and Mihocek?

Cox & Cameron too top heavy, imo.

If we were playing Melbourne/ Richmond tomorrow:

Cox - May/ Tarrant
Kreuger - Petty / Grimes
Mihocek - Lever /?

I don’t think we would be completely outmatched. Obviously, I’ll play Cox a lot deeper and hope he gets a few 1 on 1 contests.

I'm not sure Kreuger is ready yet, given he has only just started playing back in the forward line after a couple years in defence.

Unless Cox/Cameron rotate one another. Not on the field at the same time.

That's the thing that's often forgotten. With rotations of 3 tall forwards and ruck, you've probably only got 3 talls up forward for approx 20% of the game.

But if they're good enough, I'd still prefer Kelly or Kreuger rather than both Cox and Cameron.

For sure! Kelly.. if fit and performing well in the pre-season games, needs to play. Should have played more if not for his injuries.

Kelly to FB?
Not per today. Playing forward. Dean seemed to have taken Roughy's place when they did structure set up

ROUND 1 team

B: Maynard, Dean, Howe
HB: Pendlebury, Moore, Quaynor
C: Crisp, Lipinski, J.Daicos
HF: Elliott, Mihocek, Henry
F: Ginnivan, Cox, Sidebottom
FOLL: Grundy, De Goey, Adams
Int: N.Daicos, Macrae, Hoskin-Elliott, Cameron/Kelly

Emerg: Poulter (sub), Cameron/Kelly, Noble/Bianco

Unavailable: Roughead

Next in line: Noble/Bianco, McInnes, Ruscoe, McCreery, Chugg, Krueger, T.Brown, C.Brown
Developing/Depth: McMahon, Johnson, Begg, Murphy, Draper, Murley, Harrison, Wilson, Madgen

*Wouldn't surprise me if Ruscoe is selected, to assist Dean. Otherwise we may be content with Howe playing the third man up.
*Cox seems preferred at training for FF, and if his eyesight is no longer an issue, he may become Fly's first choice.
*Cameron/Kelly to play as the third tall, who it is may depend on form and team focus. Having Cameron allows more ruck options vs Ryder/Marshall, but Kelly offers more protection in defence.
*Really want Bianco in the team, but I think Noble may offer more defensively at this stage, either way neither in the 22 at this stage.
*Reef to begin with a couple of games in the twos. Surely not too long until he's knocking on the door.
*McCreery unlucky but I prefer Gini at this stage.

FEBRUARY PREDICTION
If we are lucky with injuries, I can't see this team winning the wooden spoon as so many people have predicted (BF main page thread).
There's plenty of top line quality in the side, plus no distractions this year (I doubt the JDG case has any impact).

We play Gold Coast, Adelaide, Carlton, Essendon, and Melbourne twice. Surely we get at least 4-5 wins there.

First nine games: STK (A), ADEL (H), GEEL (H), WCE (H), BRIS (A), ESS (ANZAC), GC (H), RICH (A), WB (H)
We should be looking at wins over STK, ADEL, WCE, and GC here.
After round nine we should be gunning for 5+ wins.

Expected wins: 8-10
Expected finish: 10th-14th
