Having watched Maurice senior live in both WA & Vic he was at worst the equal of Cyril & more talented than Kirby.
He also worked hard, was professional & realised his serious talent.
Maurice was much better than both, the bloke was ridiculously good.

I meant the more recent ones, I remember Maurice but was too young to have an opinion, but Dean was enormously talented too but didn't appear to have the professionalism. It was a pretty shit claim by me really

If we or another team bid on Alwyn Davey Jnr around our first pick Mid to late teens, will this force the Bombers to use pick 22 or do they have enough points with their later picks to cover?

They also have Jayden Davey to consider in the unlikely event a late bid is made on him. If not they have pick 58 or a rookie spot to chose him at.

They have to use 22 regardless

Did you see Kirby in the VFL? He was an incredible talent. Cyril is the only Rioli who had more talent.
Not denying his talent, I was a big fan and he had everything speed, power, could mark and crumb and had the goal sense and game nouse. Unfortunately he was very far off from ever reaslizing that talent. Junior Rioli may have been less talented but it was pretty clear he had atleast the talent to become an AFL standard small forward and had actually shown he's willing to do the work to transform his body and get there.

The points come from your highest pick. They're in an interesting position. I expect they'll receive a phone call - in the bids just prior. "We're about to select Alwyn Davey with this pick; however, would you be interested in the following trade: ...."

We've got 4 picks. I can't imagine the first not simply being Hine's best available - regardless of position.

Hine is not risk averse in his selections and I would be backing the ACL kid to be our choice, if he's still available.

While you never want to see a kid enduring long term injuries, this is a year where with our profile and so many <50 game players, it’s a time where we could absorb the luxury of a highly rated kid who will likely sit out all of 2023.

It’s a no-winner selection for Hine though. Will be condemned for the 2023 season for taking an injured player if we select him, if he then subsequently doesn’t realize his potential he’ll be slammed for taking an injured player because the injury obviously signaled he’d never make it, then if we don’t take him and he develops into an absolute gun he’ll be slammed for being risk averse.

I’d be happy if we selected him if Hine believes he’s the best available at our pick. Give Draper, Harrison and Murley their chance in 2023.

So we'll offer the Bombers something like 25 + 51 for 22 + 58 & not bid on Alwyn with our first ;)

Problem with that is that they're still open to phone calls from other clubs right up to pick 25, so I don't think they'd do that. It would need to include them getting pick 16.

I'm not saying it will be us, but I won't be surprised at all if Essendon do trade upwards with a pick swap during the draft. We might be willing to do something like pick 16 for 22 and their future second - don't know. But the closer it gets to pick 22, if Davey is still there, the more likely it is that a club would tell them that they're about to pick Davey, but would be happy to swap their pick for 22 and a future pick.

I guess it's a choice between Ashwin and Faye then?
Oh, Faye is not ready. He can stay outside the list for another year. I probably would like to see him play more nab league games if possible.
Believe he can still play VFL games outside the list, on the scholarship. When he footy ready enough for that.

Looks like he can sit outside the list for 3 years -- so until 2024, by then we'll know what happens with Wilson, given next year he either needs to be delisted or updated

Didn't he do his ACL a fair while ago? Unless he's had or has complications, I would have thought that he'd play a fair bit of footy in 2023?

That's not such a bad thing, this kid has something about him
Yeah, he has played some good games on the wing.
Could this be why they delisted Poulter?

Either way, we'll know if we will nominate him in a few days.

George missed most of the year with a torn meniscus, then came back and kicked 17 goals in 5 games, then did the ACL, he'll miss pretty much all of next year
