Preview 2022 draft prospects

I posted this before, but here are the replays for championships games. If people have the time they are worth the watch. Closer to the draft the discussion really heats up here and it can become a bit of a highlights package competition, so seeing the full games provides some better context for opinions. I'm not sure if the final is on there but might be found elsewhere.

Hopefully recovers like Petracca after an ACL in his first season.

Prior to injuring his ACL in one knee hadn't he just returned from a meniscus tear in the other?

If true that's the real alarm bell for me outside just a single ACL because it might indicate some sort of genetic weakness and leave him at greater risk of reoccurrence.

I still wouldn't be against us taking the risk with one of 2nd round selections though I'd put a line through him playing at any level in 2023 and give those knee ligaments and cartilage extra time to heal, strengthen and bond.

We cannot afford to recruit players with serious injury issues and/or histories. Look at Scharenberg & Freeman. Simply 2 wasted Top 10 selections. We cannot afford to go down that pathway again.
Did Freeman have an injury prior to the draft?
I'd trust our fitness department now for that not to happen again, unless it was the player. But the recruiting department would do their homework with medicals and all that to make a judgement.

We aren’t wasting a top 10 pick though. If he’s there at one of our second round picks you have to seriously consider it because he is a talent.

Hayes may not be available at our pick given Carlton are rumoured to be interested at pick 10. They are mulling over him and Hollands.

Talls normally go Higher then Rated as they are about the Hardest Postion to find a Gun In

Agree with this. Unless we move up… by the time F/S and other pick swaps on the night occur… we could be sitting on pick 19-20 first up

So long as there is a d***head free policy… I’m happy for them to take a risk with the first pick

Not that I am aware of

True. Rebuilding so need to recruit quality to fill the gaps AND replace key players such as; Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Howe, Mihocek and Elliott. Effectively 8 in three years.

To be fair, the club had absolutely no clue about Kirby’s heart condition (nor did Kirby) until he collapsed during a game.

The risk with him was his general application and fitness. It took him nearly a full year to get a debut and he was completely cooked after a quarter of footy at AFL level.
It was odd we passed on Rioli who was essentially in Kirby’s place a couple years back but actually showed the application to get his body right for an AFL career.

There was no risk with KK's general application, played great footy in the NAB league, fantastic attitude and was the second leading goal kicker in the VFL. Very popular member of the playing group who couldn't continue his career because of a heart condition, remarkable he did that with that particular handicap. Reads a lot better than lazy stereotyping.

Yeah, that’s not correct. Kirby had major application and professionalism issues.

I’ve posted this previously, that Richmond (through a mate involved in their drafting) couldn’t believe we used a national draft pick on him. They had major reservations despite him being in their program and only ever intended to use a rookie pick on him.

Furthermore through someone else I know up who had involvement with him in the mallee, his commitment to being a professional athlete should have been a major question mark leading into the draft.

Great kid and very personable from what I was told (at least at the time), but to paint him as no risk isn’t stereotyping IMO.

Did you see Kirby in the VFL? He was an incredible talent. Cyril is the only Rioli who had more talent.

You’re confusing application and talent. This has nothing to do with lazy stereotyping, you weren’t here back then, but I was Kayles biggest fanboy on this forum back when we drafted him. There was no denying his talent, he was an absolute freak, but his fitness was awful, to the point where the coaching group had him running laps and sprints while the rest of the group did drills and match play, and that happened for the entire preseason and well in to the season proper. His eating habits were also a massive concern, which hindered his fitness progress even more.

The only person being lazy here is you. Go back to arguing with actual draft watchers about how you’re more knowledgeable than them because you can regurgitate what’s been said in the media. It’s what you’re best at.

Having watched Maurice senior live in both WA & Vic he was at worst the equal of Cyril & more talented than Kirby.
He also worked hard, was professional & realised his serious talent.

Would be nice. One more midfielder available at our selection if that happens
