Stepho had the heart condition.

Abbott is the nephew of the postcard bandit.

Blokes who missed a season or a lot of it before drafted: there's been a fair few, but off the top of my head Jack Ramsay, MLarty, Cooper Murley, Shaz

Clay Tucker

Height: 204cm
Weight: 99kg
D.O.B: 09-08-2004
Leagues: NAB League Boys

STRENGTHS:
  • Ruck craft
  • Positioning
  • Athleticism
IMPROVEMENTS:
  • Raw
  • Versatility
With an imposing 204cm frame, it is not hard to see why Tucker has attracted suitors ahead of the 2022 AFL Draft. Representing the Eastern Ranges in the NAB League, the towering ruck might weigh in at 99kg, but he can also leap and is mobile considering his size. This allows him to cover the ground well, and though he is still raw, is one with potential.

Averaging 20 hitouts per game is no easy feat in itself, but the way Tucker controls his taps and the ruck contests is impressive, placing them well into the path of his midfielders, with the ability to tap it over congestion for outside runners as well. Tucker does well with his positioning around the ground, playing as the ‘kick behind’ big man and creating contests when the opposition rush a kick down the line. His work rate and ability to improve himself is important, and while he is not a consistent marker just yet, he gets into the right areas.

Currently Tucker is quite a raw prospect, gifted with height and athleticism but yet to put it together with his skills, and he will be a bit of a project ruckman for a club at the next level. He also does not impact a lot in other positions currently, which is something that clubs will look to work on. Given the rarity of his strength and athleticism combination, Tucker is one that may not go high, but if taken, could be a handy player of the future with his upside.

That looks like a ruckman!

Ben Kennedy the smoker who was more interested in skateboarding…?

If we were go after Tucker with our 2nd or 3rd pick that could work alright for us, I do not want to go for 3 talls though.

Hayes and another tall work for me but not 3 talls and Tucker as Mick F has said is proper ruck size it would be nice if could play elsewhere but I do think we need a young ruck to develop.

I meant Sier. I wouldn't have called Ben Kennedy a risk - he came with as good a junior pedigree as you're ever going to get at the stage of the draft he was selected.

Hayes will be gone before our first pick and we're not using a pick in the 20's on Tucker.

I like celebrating but not sticking it up the oppo with his arm as he did, just me.

Retention is not great for me 36 and I can't remember seeing him play in the little amount of live games I've watched for the year anyway.
I believe he is very good at ground level only based on what I've read.

Articles:

At 185cm, he presents as a slightly taller target with his explosive athleticism and clean hands overhead, but can make defenders look silly at ground level with his goal sense. Able to convert from all angles and distances, the Murray Bushrangers talent could follow a similar path to Josh Rachele this year.

A strong-bodied, powerful forward, George plays a high impact-per-possession game. He hurts opponents by foot around the ground and does not need to find a lot of the ball to hit the scoreboard heavily. Proficient both overhead and at ground level, George is a marking threat one-on-one, aerially and on the lead, while at ground level he is a one-touch player and a powerful contested ball winner.
This would be why he was considered a top 10 shout early year. Those are all the attributes of the JDG/ Heeney/ Petracca power mid fwd. Mobility will be the question coming back from the knee and whether he’s King/ Petracca or Scharenberg/ Baldwin…

If we take a ruck it will probably be Barnett. He offers much more than just a tap ruckman and can seriously take a mark, he's like a young Grundy but with outstanding marking ability

If Luke Teal is still around late in the draft, I'd be picking him.
His father was a very talented footballer at Hawthorn and Sydney. Only played a handful of games due to injury, but played a couple of ripper games.

Luke Teal looked like he had alot of upside in that game against Collingwood VFL team.

George will miss next season;)

I hope we choose Lemmey. Reading about him, he's got a good head and maybe not having the success he was hoping for this year will be a good thing for him. He has a goal to play 250 games, he wants to reach that goal and he's prepared to do the work ... we can't ask for too much more from a prospect. If he was in the Pick 1 conversation in March and now is outside the top 20, that shows a fair slide. But it also shows that he had enough potential and had demonstrated something. I think sometimes we read too much into good NAB League or representative games without looking enough at the history of a player. He's worth the risk if Pick 27 slides to Pick 30ish. That's where McMahon was taken and Lemmey has shown a lot more than McMahon.

Who though in the 2022 draft?

i haven’t followed it well enough this year watched about 8 to 10 players videos.

tbh of those I have watched George’s highlight package doesn’t look amazing quite average in fact, contrary to his write ups by u18 watchers/observers and testing, just lead up goals nothing flash or special.
But given the majority of notes on him all describe burst athlete traits similar to petracca, degoey etc I wouldn’t mind if we took him. As obvs his highlights don’t do hm justice.

Highlights don't show everything

I see no problem with taking both Barnett and Hayes if we are lucky enough but I do not want either Keeler or Lemmey also,I think a small with our other choice.

Yeh, I've not decided personally if I could call George's name with our first?
25 or 27 maybe, risk Vrs reward Vrs need (tall/mid) Vrs who we rate at these picks & if they are available still???
Barnett for e.g.

And others as a forward/ mid have him as a similar type to rachelle which I can't see from the limited highlights.
One person sees Petracca like traits and the other Rachelle. Bits of both maybe but contrasts all the same, with both build & position

I like James Van Es for a tall back, bigger body than Lewis Hayes and a beautiful kick of the ball.

I asked Knightmare if it is possible that Van Es turns out to be the better player.

Quote, "I'm not predicting it, but it can't be ruled out. Van Es is the stronger 1v1, better stopper and better aerially. Is a good kick in his own right and also can also take intercept marks. Hayes of the pair is more the upside pick with even better rebounding/intercepting."

Good tall defender is Van Es, I can see him being picked up day 2.
