Oh no doubt he would probably be the one. But will be extremely hard to do

I thought we had established:
(i) we can’t trade next year’s first (not that it is likely to be top ten); and
(ii) no one is trading their pick, inside ten, for our 16th.

If we really want Jefferson, I reckon if he’s still there at eagles pick, we try and trade with them, 1 spot ahead of Melb who most phantom drafts have taking him. That’s if we really rate him. One of our picks in the 20’s plus our first, not to many spots behind their current pick. And they may view their wa boy as being there at our pick anyway. This talk about is trading up at least might make draft night a bit more spicy. Interesting to see who we really want.

This lull in content is killing me

Just my opinion but I don’t think he’s the one we’re trying to move up for
I think it would be a top line mid to develop alongside Naicos
There’s prob a tall available in the 30s that’s better value

This side is a bit old now, but has there ever been a bigger loser of players than GWS?
FB: Caleb Marchbank, Aidan Corr, Lachie Plowman

HB: Zac Williams, Sam Frost, Nathan Wilson

C: Tom Scully, Adam Treloar, Dylan Shiel

HF: Will Hoskin-Elliott, Jeremy Cameron, Devon Smith

FF: Jonathon Patton, Josh Bruce, Jacob Townsend

FO: Rory Lobb, Taylor Adams, Jack Steele

IC: Will Setterfield, Matt Kennedy, Adam Tomlinson, Tom Boyd
no

agree, sounds like we want one of Hollands or Humphrey.... or Clark if he miraculously slides.

Cant help thinking that if we keep 16, Cowan may get to us, and we pounce.

And so should we….

Who are we passing on weary mouth?
I’ve lost count of the guys you don’t rate.

Don't stress, he'll probably end up another weideman, actually I think the weed at the same age was a much better player. I don't think we will be moving up for Jefferson, it will be a midfield target.
I think it would be for Hewitt/philipou/Humphrey

Yeah I’m not phased, was just looking at who we might be trading up for as there’s talk about it. I’d be happy just to use the 3 picks tbh

We aren’t getting our hands on a top 6 pick.

Not sure how you could confidently say that. He was out injured for the bulk of his draft year wasn’t he? He was a Hail Mary at the time IMO, drafted on his name rather than his runs on the board, over a far more consistent performer in McKay who’d shown significant development throughout the year, much like Jefferson has this year. That’s not to say Jefferson is well ahead of Weed at the same age either, because it’s borderline imo. I definitely wouldn’t be taking him in the top 10 of this draft.

Saints Phantom Draft:
Lewis Hayes, Harry Barnett, Coby Burgiel and TBC

Richmond Phantom Draft:
Oliver Hollands, Henry Hustwaite, Josh Weddle and TBC

This just gives you an idea of the names available at our current (rumours of moving up but no clubs want to move down?) selections.

For me it’ll be from the following - lots of talls but 2/3 stick then we are set - midfielders for me come from trades

Hustwaite
Barnett
Keeler
Lemmey
Hayes
Van Es

True but aren’t basic skill flaws the issue?eg kicking.
I haven't seen enough of him to make that call, I can only go on the little I've seen & what I've read with the bolded requiring some level of skill:

" A strong bodied one-on-one key defender who rarely loses a contest, A good reader of the ball in flight, Van Es is a potent intercept mark and contested mark who uses the ball reliably by foot.

Have you seen differently to suggest otherwise?

Personally I think Van Es is not too dissimilar to our very own Will Kelly in terms of game style and physical build.

He’s been fairly serviceable throughout the year in a very shallow pool of key backs.

He’s definitely not someone I would be spending one of our picks in the 20’s on though.

Agree Rusty, I'm not taking him with those picks in the 20,s either.
I was initially replying to a question on him from another poster going back a day or 2 ago

I wouldn't be against it if we took 4 players and took him with our 4th pick, especially if we miss out on Hayes

It may depend on the type of players we secure with our first 3 picks or whether we restructure our trade picks and if we can source a ruckman as a DFA or SSP. Just throwing shite out there!
If we have no ruck in sight as a DFA I don't mind using pick 51 to draft one rather than selecting one in the rookie draft (if we were to make a spot available, Ginni elevation) where our first pick will be 16 and the couple we rate may be gone.
Still remember drafting Johnson with #3 in the 21 Mid season only to see ruck after ruck get selected prior to us settling on Begg with our next pick.

Two points from my perspective:

1. Inferior ball use is the most overrated “weakness” in assessing draft talent.

2. A KPD in our system doesn’t need to be a good kick because of the guys they have around them and how they get the ball (much more uncontested ball).

That’s not to talk Van Es up or down, but more a comment on footskill as an attribute unless the technique is fundamentally flawed for the top level.

I hope we just go for some genuine footballers that aren't the highest rated necessarily, with the hope of getting a Chad Warner .

Collingwood picked up two second-round picks after Ollie Henry and Brodie Grundy departed the club in the off-season, helping strengthen their draft hand.

While the likes of Dan McStay and Billy Frampton joined the club last month, Collingwood may want to take at least one key tall with one of their early picks.

WA’s Jedd Busslinger or Vic Metro’s Lewis Hayes could be viable tall options at pick 16, but in typical Collingwood fashion, recruiting manager Derek Hine is likely to target who he has as best available irrelevant of position.

2022 Picks: 16, 25, 27, 51

Jedd Busslinger is landing at Geelong. Lewis Hayes either goes to Carlton or lands at Collingwood should he be the best available.

We then have a choice of the three South Australian ruckmen - Keeler, Barnett or Lemmey. One will almost certainly be on our list in 2023. Tigers will take Lemmey if he is available at their first pick, Keeler will be recruited by Adelaide should he fall outside the top 40.
