Preview 2022 draft prospects

An exciting addition to my thread for this year, graciously stolen passed on by eDPS, a Rolling Mock Draft! Now please don't take too much from this, the year is young so rankings are naturally all over the place and what each club will be needing by years end will naturally change along with those rankings. From my Point of View, those first 11 Picks were purely putting names to clubs in that range, but from there onwards it became a lot more difficult just because of how many kids are looking good early on, as they start to put themselves into positions ranking wise it'll get easier, but there were about 20 kids in total I considered from the picks of Bevan to Gilbey

* I apparently got the order of West Coast and Essendon wrong, so now as fans you have the freedom of deciding whether you want to swap the players selected or keep the on you ended up with, enjoy 🤗

Curious that he has Matthew Jefferson over Keeler.
Over in Victoria’s NAB League, the Oakleigh Chargers did it the hard way again. Looking dominant early on, their kicking at goal let them down (11.21), with star forward Matthew Jefferson kicking six behinds in what was a great performance despite the inaccuracy. Jefferson was tough to beat in the air, taking plenty of contested grabs inside 50 and some nice marks up the ground, showing he isn’t just an inside 50 forward.

#4 Matthew Jefferson

It could have been a huge day for the highly rated key forward who kicked seven behinds (only six credited) for the day with each shot narrowly missing mostly to the left hand side showing his set shot action might need some tweaking but what doesn’t need tweaking is his marking ability which was exceptional. Jefferson was hard to stop not just in the lead but also in contested marking situations and despite his lighter frame was able to stay strong in the air to hold his marks. Jefferson finished the game with nine disposals and eight marks and he looks on the verge of tearing a game apart once his set shots start to hit their mark.

I'll have to pay attention to him from now on.

How tall is my question. Ive seen mentions 193cm.. If he can grow this year, that would be nice. We need someone closer to 197cm at least

He is in the AFL Nab Academy. Thats a good sign.

His profile said 194cm.

Contested marking and 6 shots on goal, or 7 if one was not credited, are the positives but I’m not sure we can draft someone that kicks 0.6! Surely that’s a one-off!

One of the write-ups stated that all his misses were similar, and suggested that it might be a problem with technique.

Surely that can be addressed... Or, worst case, we end up with a Cloke/Naughton type ;)

round 1 and round 2 (I was there for these games.. But I was more paying attention to our nga prospects lol)

#4 Matthew Jefferson

Whilst the wet conditions meant it wasn’t best day to be a marking tall forward, Jefferson impressed with his work at ground level for a tall player, showing his cleanliness below his knees at speed and quick hands to set up a goal at one stage. Jefferson should good reaction time as well as he managed to intercept an attempted switch kick in his forward 50, spoiling the ball for a teammate to run onto and score. Despite the conditions, Jefferson still showed off some of his aerial talent, taking a contested mark right on the point line to slot a goal for his efforts.

An intriguing prospect, Jefferson had multiple nice moments despite only finding the ball eight times. Playing as a deep forward for most of the game, he stood out in the air, where he took some athletic grabs that showed great judgement. He also managed to kick a couple of goals, but Oakleigh would be looking for ways to get him involved more, considering the raw talent he possesses. Only lightly framed, Jefferson’s current level of performance can’t simply be taken at face value, as he is one that projects to develop significantly. Future prospects aside, he showed why recruiters should be interested on Sunday, with a great blend of athletic gifts and intangible football ability that could feasibly translate to league football.

Ive wanted to go all in to grab Keeler / Busslinger for the last few months…think it’s Lemmey / Scully now

With Lemmey, will only get access to him if we finish lower than North you would think and bottom 4.

Scully we would have a decent chance, if he is rated in the first round.
I noticed, he is still named in this weekends U18 line up. Hasnt been promoted yet.

He is a Wesley boy like Tsatas (and Toby Greene, Adam Cerra and Charlie Dean) so will miss a few NAB league games with APS footy

Yeah, but we should hear how he goes with APS footy. That gets a fair amount of attention I think.

He's 194cm apparantely.

The good news is it’s another key forward being talked about in Round 1 and it looks like 4-5 of them, not including Scully.

Surely,I mean surely, this is the year we go for one.

After the badgering Hine copped on the topic at Club 42 last night I think you could almost guarantee it 😁

The interesting thing with Hine and the deficit of talls, is how many inside mids has he drafted in his 17 years in the job? He's drafted Pendles and JDG, but JDG wasn't a mid in under 18s and I'm not sure if Pendles played on the inside. But I'm not just talking top end, he's barely drafted anyone who played inside mid as a kid. I'm struggling to think of any.

JDG did play inside mid for Vic Metro!

Luke Ball did quite nicely!! Pick 30 in the 2009 National Draft! You do make a fair point, however, as there haven't been many: Collingwood - Every Draft Pick Ever - Draftguru

Looking through that, a few more than I thought and without knowing I suspect guys like Blair, Wellingham, Josh Thomas and Marley Williams would have been inside mids in underage footy - a lot of flankers though - albeit some with midfield potential.

I have real concerns over Keelers application and defensive work, he's a bit of a 'pick and choose' player with when he wants to commit to things in game
