Why the Mid-Season Draft Thread been Closed?
I was wondering the same thing! I'm pretty sure a mod must have shut it down by accident, when intending to close another thread! I think this post (in MSD thread) strongly hints at that:

This^ is likely to be the thread that should have been shut down!

Never said he was shit, he’s not worth big $. Where did I say he was shit? If a club say north offered him big $, we’d get a compo pick if my understanding. Never said we’d get two picks for him, I meant we’d have our own plus whatever compo.
But let’s just say you are right and he isn’t worth a big contract. We won’t be getting a band one compensation.

Jeez I'd be disappointed with pick 10 or whatever compo pick it turns out as for Jordy. If we were the wooden spooner maybe, but the pick we have will be when the draft is getting pretty hit and miss. I think it's no chance that we let him go, unless another club is offering crazy money.

Degoey is a victim of circumstance atm. I just can’t see how we pay Grundy, Moore and him big $. I won’t go into grundys contract, but it def has an impact. And Degoey no doubt has talent, he just isn’t consistent enough. Granted He’s been pretty good last few weeks. Will just have to see what $ he wants. Unfortunately FA has bent us over in the past with clubs throwing money. Another concern I have is this mcstay talk. I’m just not seeing money being well spent. Will see how it plays out

I've felt all along that there's two choices at the end of the year. Try to add a couple of mature recruits to have a crack or alternatively look a long way down the road. I think they will go the former. The McStay rumour suggests that - in which case there's just no way we'll let Jordy go easily.

I think our list would be well under cap at the moment, even whilst paying Treloar. Heaps of them would be on minimum wage. We've got very few who would be getting paid a middling AFL salary.

Look at Carlton, they set themselves up in the 2015 draft, Weitering, (1) McKay (10) and Curnow (13)
We just need to nab a gem with the pick in the which will be in the range of around 8-10 IMO..
And we should keep JDG.
We also have the cap space to target a proven tall forward through trade or via the draft.

Seems to me that there an assumption inherent in this line of thinking that we either are or will be the only club with 3 players on $750-850k+ salaries. I’m just not seeing it being an issue. Especially with 1/2 the current list on <50 games.

I look at Carlton’s list atm and just wonder where they have the money 😂.

Looks to be a good draft this year, need to trade into the first round to cash in on talls

We have 1 pick already, maybe JDG could make it 2 ( we will see). How do we get a 3rd?

Target someone that has a FS. Like brisbane or essendon

Just say we keep winning and some how make the finals and our pick goes out to 10-12, are there good talks in that range or are they all in the top 7-9?

They would have been able to bank a heap of money when their list was shite. Being really crap for ages not only gives you early picks, it enables you to bank a heap of cap.

Can’t “bank” TPP. Every club has to use 95-105% every year. Best you can hope is to run at 95% the year before to acquire a big money recruit. Gives you just over $600k of the underspend in the subsequent year from memory.

Contracting gives you greater resource flexibility. Another reason 8 don’t mind carrying a few players on 1 year extensions. Potential retirees as well as some kids. Easy to divest to free up additional cap space when you need it and some potential upside if a kid becomes a solid role player in the process.

Just as teams can backload contracts when at the top to essentially give them a short term higher salary cap, but a smaller cap in the future, they can front load contracts when they're at the bottom to give them more cap for the future.

PMBangers great work with an update.

Would absolutely love Jefferson... I think he is exactly what we need as well!

And if Hine doesn't go for a Key Fwd, Munkara would be my next pick... kid is special.

I'd definitely be happy with Jefferson. It goes with our feeding ground with the oakleigh chargers haha.

Cadman had a very good game last week. Stocks are rising.

If we had a chance at Scully/Jefferson/Cadman at our pick I would be happy with anyone them.

Now that we’ve added an inside mid surely, I mean surely, we go key position with the first pick this year. Cadman or Jefferson seem to fit the bill.
