Here's your boy...rookie chance too.
Definitely a project player but the kind you draft late/rookie as KPD's...pretty decent when utilised in ruck as well so also has that potential.

Can someone please explain why clubs can be bothered with Next Generation Academy if the AFL keeps shifting the goal posts on nominations? The Crows have trained up Keeler nicely for the Saints.
It's got me beat ! .....another of the AFL's many success stories

Heard the other day, the AFL are considering phasing it out ....except for NSW and QLD .....I believe there was some underhanded political shenanigans with Gold Coast, and the Academies was a pay-off ?

This article must a few years old ....as it also references the newly drafted Heeney

THE AFL has sent Brisbane and the Gold Coast Suns to conquer the new world and armed them only with toy guns.

Queensland’s two clubs along with the Swans and GWS are on the frontline of the AFL’s code-war. Yet the game’s rulers refuse to arm them adequately because of the howls of outrage from the traditional states.

The Lions and Suns have threatened to shut down their talent academies — which were designed to lure the best young athletes away from the rugby codes and other traditional Queensland sports — if the AFL pushes through new rules that increase the draft value of players they have developed.

Why should cash-strapped clubs invest money in programs that don’t offer them an advantage? Especially when you could argue the academies are more critical to the AFL than the clubs.

Rankine leaving the Suns and the Giants losing a few players will have them crying they need to keep their academies (and Suns probably want to keep NT too) and have first access to those players if the AFL try to phase them out completely. And then if you do that the Swans and Lions can cry they need theirs too because they have the same "go-home, non traditional state" issues, even though they've not usually had issues building a good side.

NGA requirements should have been tightened up, rather than the rules on where you can draft them IMO. Like the fact James Borlase qualified as a NGA pick for us is absolutely ridiculous

What if all players just go into the draft - no academies, no FS, no NGA, no concessions.

Then if there are issues with clubs losing players, we can look at the root cause and implement actions to correct it, rather than building layers of complexity like concession picks which don't address the root cause and just cause issues further down the line.

Exactly. If you're going to have academies, stick to what they are meant for: bringing new talents into the game from other backgrounds and pathways

Not for restricting existing players to specific clubs

Have a look back at the 2020 draft. Early days but there doesn't look to be tons of talent that we missed out on. Rowe probably the best available where he went
We also traded out a 2021 pick to move up in 2020 to get him. Who did we miss out on with that pick?

Look I’m not going to hang them for getting an average pick wrong, but we did rate him enough to use 2 picks on him and we got it wrong. His shortcomings which didn’t see him get drafted previously are the same which saw him get delisted.

Fair.

He was just too slow to add much defensively, and he wasn’t able to find space or time to hit the scoreboard as effectively as hoped

Maybe in a more mature, stable forward structure he could still contribute.

He was more a player you could maybe succeed with, not because of

James Rowe back in the SANFL looks like we had no interest bringing him in.

The Woodville West Torrens Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of 2020 Eagles Premiership player and Ken Farmer Medallist James Rowe.

Rowe returns to Oval Avenue after 36 games at the Adelaide Crows over the past two seasons.

On James’s return senior coach Jade Sheedy said, “We all know what Jimmy is capable on field but what I’m most excited about is what he brings off the field. He is a great character and is a perfect fit for our continuing to drive our standards and strong club culture.”

On his signing James said, “I loved my time at the Eagles prior to being drafted so it was an easy decision to come back home. Sheeds is a great coach and I look forward to playing under him again. I have no doubt we can contend for the flag in 2023.”

Please join us in welcoming James back to the Club.
