Just as an aside, the mechanism for bringing Seed & Moose back onto our list was a DFA period - from 10-11pm last night. Has anyone seen any confirmation, on the AFC or AFL websites, regarding these list changes?
I noticed that time frame also and did a bit of searching around but couldn't find anything.

I think that was only a one time deal during COVID
No, we were allowed to move players from the senior list to the rookie list between the ND & RD. The mechanism for this was delisting them, then re-signing them during a DFA period, between 2200-2300 last night (AEDT).

Refer to November 29, in this AFL media release:

Turner shouldn't have been drafted, McPherson shouldn't have received his last contract, and a ruthless club would not be redrafting any of Turner, McPherson, or Seedsman.
Yeah, well... we can't afford to pay out the delisted players who were contracted for 2023.

Are you referring to the
  • Rookie Upgrade Period opens (10pm)
  • Rookie Upgrade Period closes (11pm)
Because that's what we used to upgrade Butts and Strachan. Or the
  • AFL Delisted Player Free Agency Period (3) commences (10pm)
  • AFL Delisted Player Free Agency Period (3) closes (11pm)
Because that's for DFAs moving onto the main list

No, I'm referring to:

  • AFL Delisted Player Free Agency Period (3) closes (11pm)
Note that both of these periods (DFA & rookie upgrade) happen at the same time.

** We haven't seen any media releases from the AFL about rookie upgrades either. My guess is that we'll see a consolidated list at the conclusion of the RD.

Yeah that's for delisted free agency aka. main list free agents like all the other DFA periods

It's unclear... but we do know the AFL said that clubs would be able to move players from the senior list to the rookie list, between the ND & RD. This appears to be the mechanism for making that happen, noting that we've already delisted Seeds & Moose, thereby making them DFAs.

I thought they only offered that for one year in 2020 but I might be wrong and it could be ongoing.

With that said I haven't seen any club actually use that mechanism if it exists so who knows

Seed and McPherson but no Turner.

Can pretty much already name most of our delistings for 2023:

McAsey
Crouch
McPherson
Seedsman
Hately

Sloane and Tex a chance to retire (depending on form/injury)
Doedee a chance to leave via FA, while the likes of Taylor, Nankervis, Worrell and Schoenberg are OoC.

We'll probably do something to look after him.
I don't see the need, really. It's not as if we uprooted him, and moved him interstate. He will just return to his SANFL team, and that will be the end of his brief AFL career.

No surprise. The decisions yesterday, to draft Bond & Dowling, meant that there was no longer a position available for him on our team list.
Surely we get a McAsey/Seed announcement soon in that case, considering Turner is still training with us

You can probably add Newchurch & Borlase to that list as well. Strachan an outside chance of being delisted, if he still can't find his way past ROB.

They were selected in the RD.
5. Andrew McPherson (Adelaide, re-listed)
21. Adelaide – Paul Seedsman (Adelaide, re-listed)
I mean in regards to beginning the process of finding an SSP replacement for them

And I said McAsey, not McPherson haha

I forgot about the cat B guys.

Strachan is safe as houses given our complete and utter refusal to recruit another ruckman over the last 4-5 years.
