You know what would be great for us, if the next couple of trade periods we were able to fill holes in our list with Free agent signings so that we don’t have to give up draft picks.

We seem to land very few of these and are always trying to pry players out at great cost.

Hawthorns dynasty was build off free agent signings. Cost them nothing but salary.

Now we are a finals team and have the potential for flags hopefully it makes us a bit of a destination and we can lure a couple players across.

Are there any key position players coming into free agency next two years ?

Except he’s not as good as Michael. Shorter and slower. However he never got a chance to play in his role for Port. Could be worth it for Rookie pick
I remember reading somewhere that West Coast made some initial enquiries in the early discussions around Junior Rioli trade.

We have a pretty full Rookie list at present

36 Primary list

(5) Crowden, Kuek, Treacy, Worner, Schultz

Two out (Blakely, Banfield-upgraded)

So only 1 spot that we are holding for Tippa potentially. No room for Fredericks bro.

Lobb, you are a pillock. Good riddance you mental midget.
The differences from club and player in the media between Meek and Lobb probably tell you how each were viewed internally

It's all well and good to want to poach Naughton or whoever. But how are we going to pay them? We need to be working a brown paper bag scheme like Carlton and Geelong, but I don't know if we have that in operation.

Think of how much Brayshaw, Serong, Young, Jackson, Cox, Darcy should be getting paid. Some of them need new contracts over the next few years. There's other ones who won't be on peanuts. The salary from Fyfe and Walters can be redistributed, but I don't know if that is enough to get a Naughton.
And please don't forget the able loyal Shoota Schultz

Bookmark this. Adelaide will go after Cox big time . . . every year they keep asking the question. Need to sign Ryan up asap next year and then work on Cox long term.

Serong I’m not worried about. He will 100% re-sign long term. . . Serong and Brayshaw are literally captaining the club already, every club decision goes tru them including recruiting.

They can ask about cox every year doesn’t mean he’ll go

We stacked our chips this year guys with player payments and draft stock.
This is the team we will be challenging with, the rebuild is over.
Oh I sincerely hope not.

See if you can spot the giant gaping hole we're about to fall into if we stop now.

Oldest players on our list 2022
31yrs 9mths - Michael Walters - Forward
31yrs 1mnth - Travis Colyer - Forward/Wing
31yrs 0mnths - Nat Fyfe - Forward/Mid
29yrs 9mnths - Nathan Wilson - Defender
29yrs 8mnths - Rory Lobb - Forward (traded)
29yrs 6mnths - Joel Hamling - Defender
29yrs 3mnths - Matthew Taberner - Forward

It's entirely possible, nay probably, that within a very short period of time only Schultz and Freddy will be left from the regular forward line that played in 2022... and it was easily our weakest area then.

Poor Mitch

Fremantle has advised forward Mitch Crowden that he will not be offered a contract for season 2023.

Taken with pick no.59 at the 2017 NAB AFL National Draft, Crowden made his debut in round two of season 2018.

The 23-year-old, who was delisted at the end of the 2021 season and subsequently re-rookied, kicked 15 goals in his 42 games for Fremantle, including two in 2022.

“These are always difficult conversations to have,” Head of Player Personnel David Walls said.

“Mitch was disappointed but took the news in a manner reflective of his positive attitude during his time at Freo.

“We wish Mitch all the best in his future endeavours.

“We will do all we can to assist Mitch and his management in finding new opportunities for him.”
