Getting Jackson makes our already good midfield that much better. Everyone focussing on what Jackson will do up forward but I think it's the continuity of our midfield dominance in games that is the focus. Lobb in the ruck is not great but having Darcy first ruck and Jackson second means we are lethal at all times.
Our forwards will be fine. Jackson/Amiss/Tabs/Treacy/Fyfe. We also most likely pick up another tall KPF as well this offseason.

Lobb having extended minutes in the ruck in the 3rd quarter was critical. You’d hope Jackson is even better.

People forget, Jackson with his height has the endurance of a midfielder and he runs BOTH ways. Jackson, Brayshaw and Serong will run all day and will defend. This is Fyfe’s ticket back in the midfield rotation.

Feel like if Logue doesn’t sign we give Acres what he wants. Acres extension with us depends on Logues ego.

Got to give it to Acres and Particularly Lobb, they are playing great footy for two blokes with a foot out the door.

So Lobb leaving cause of his Mrs (fair enough)

Tucker the same but also opportunities.

Acres and Logue want more $. Feel like we keep one of these players.

I think we can keep both.

Tucker can leave. He signed in the off season after assessing his options with the promise he'd play more on the wing but unfortunately for him drizzy time happened. He's not gonna get opportunity now and has already given us 100+ games. Doesn't owe us anything.

Lobb we paid for him to come here. Gave him 750k a year. And this is the first year he's looked anywhere close to that value. His gf knew his contract situation when she took that job in melb. Tell them both to suck it up and finish the final year here.

Acres is a mercenary. Loved it at stk and was really well liked among teammates, but freo offered him a lot more so he left without a second thought. Plays like absolute dogshit for the majority of his time here and finally gets his s**t together in a contract year because he knows if he doesn't then he's unemployed.

Logue I expect to stay.
"Acres is a mercenary. Loved it at stk and was really well liked among teammates, but freo offered him a lot more so he left without a second thought." ???

Acres had been told by St Kilda that his contract was unlikely to be renewed the following year (he had one year left) and that his opportunities would be limited for that remaining year. Essentially, he was pushed out the door, didn't want to leave.

In that scenario, let’s just hope that Acres doesn’t make up his mind before Logue does.

I said this last week - I think we’ll miss Acres more than Logue.

All this depends on us having adequate cover for KPDs and/or Pearce and Cox staying fit. Logue isn’t a very good forward imo - his position should go to Amiss next season. I think expecting 30 goals from Amiss next year is dreaming but I think he’s more likely to do it 2024 than anyone we can realistically trade in on top of Jackson.

I tell ya wot I’m a lot more sanguine about Jackson after watching Amiss last night.
If Lobb actually goes he’ll be handy.

But Jackson won’t be required to be the forward messiah

Honestly I think the absolute worst thing we can do going forward is think we've got KPF covered and then we end up with a young Amiss playing lone fiddle for the next 5 years.

Not only could that **** up his development but it's back to the future for us and the lack of decent tall forwards holding up us back.

Think we will be fine with Treacy, Jackson and their aggression.
It’s the small, medium talls that can really take advantage, is where there
could be a huge improvement.
A Son Son protege, and we have to find a true medium forward.
Sturt could be a more attacking option, Erasmus adds to the menace.
The smalls would have a field day, and it’s what wins finals footy.

Griff was definitely off tonight. Mentally checked out because he knows he's not going to be here next season? So many jumps at marks he miss timed and would always find himself behind his player in the fwd line.
Unfortunately griff was off because he’s not a forward

Can’t wait for all those saying they don’t want Jackson to have a giant egg on their face…

Seriously, he costs a lot for a reason. Don’t be scared because of our clubs past mistakes. We’re getting an absolute gun here.

Some also need to realise players play worse when playing injured. Wilson was clearly injured late last year but this board wrote off four years at the club as useless despite getting very good for three and a half of them. He returns to the side this year fully fit and all of a sudden this board doesn’t mind him again. We shouldn’t overreact on Jackson either - last year he was class. Fix up his minor injury issues over the summer and he’ll be a gun from next year.
So when Jackson plays poorly he's actually injured? Damn that 21 week injury he's been carrying all season then.

A gun? Seriously wonder if half this board would hilariously overrate him if he was from SA and going to Adelaide

His performance doesn't warrant the huge price Melbourne believe he is worth. I expect us to think of the value as a steal by the end of next season. Similar to Jordan Clark - and Clark was contracted for another year when we traded for him.

What other 20 year old rucks are even getting a game?

When you consider his performance relative to his age, he’s a gun. I don’t see how you can argue otherwise.

FWIW I’ve been very critical of some players we’ve chased in the past. I don’t believe I’m just being positive about him because we’re chasing him. Look back 2-3 years and I didn’t want Brandon Matera or Travis Colyer at the club. I was positive about Will Brodie and Jordan Clark last year though.

Offer Melbourne what we think he is worth without overpaying. If he nominates us we control this, just as Carlton did with Cerra. By the time the trade is done I doubt if they will have the capacity to match the contract.

I think Tarranto will end up going to a big contract for a first and a second, and I think Jackson should be the same.

Acres was part of the Brad Hill trade, I was under the impression at the time he wasn’t keen, but St Kilda wanted Hill more than they wanted Acres.

As I understood it at the time from someone who knew Acres personally was that he preferred to stay at St. Kilda but once they told him about the trade he was open to coming home.

Yeah, nothing disparaging in there about Acres not being wanted and not going to be offered another contract.
I have only read that Acres didn't want to leave and was pushed out as well. Hill was bought to take his position.

You cant blame Acres for not accepting a massively low ball offer when he's turning 27 and this might be his last good contract. Your hate is very harsh. 3 years at 350k considering he's been easily our best wingman this year, in AA contention before injury, is fine to ask for. He's not some bloke who has been earning 600k for 10 years. He probably doesn't have anything to really fall back on after football. Give the man a break.

I'm really hoping we stump up clpse to 3 x 350k. I genuinely feel like us offering him a 1 year deal was us pushing him out the door, or at least being a little naughty and offering him a massive low ball while his confidence was shattered after injury.

I think Blake Acres has been good for us this year but he is the definition of a hard working role player with limitations in his game, particularly surround ball use.

I think you can find a similarly hard working elite runner and get almost the same result, but perhaps better. He isn't particularly quick, he isn't particularly creative with handball, or kick flat bullets to targets.

His primary skill is working hard and running a long way.
