Another injury to a key defender and we must take one if there is anyone decent available.
Agreed, usually I would say best midfielder available, then the best tall forward, but a key defender with some size should be the first consideration now.
The above aside you just know it will probably be just another 178 cm and 75 keg flanker.

I just don’t think there’s anyway we take a key defender in the mid season draft and then play them at afl level this year. We would just move burton to a kpp post or move finlayson back or something.

So if we’re not going to play a key defender we draft in the mid season draft there’s really zero reason to draft a ready made key defender other than to bolster the magpies, which I doubt we do.

If we identify a key defender who we think might be able to develop into a player for us sure, but I think it’s pointless to draft for immediate needs (ie this season) when we would never play them anyway.

Just draft the player who might have a chance to develop into a good player, **** needs. I’ll be surprised if more than a couple of players ever make it out of these drafts so trying to narrow that down by drafting for needs would just make it impossible.

A developing key defender fills an immediate need. We have no key defenders at SANFL level developing as of this moment.

Don't waste possible development time with 3 SANFL listed players, start now.

Can a player be placed on the LTI and still play SANFL? Just not AFL?

Can a player come off the LTI list and play and we get a draft pick in the mid season if we have another player to put on the LTI? Ie put Scott on the LTI, take two mid season picks, then if we had another long term injury that player could be put on the LTI and Scott be able to play again?

Sam Durdin has nominated. Anyone know how he's been tracking?

Durdin, Brand, Ballenden and Surman the most likely plug and play KPD's from SA you'd reckon. Brand nearly 29yo so probably avoid him.
Small forwards Kantilla, Stagg or Menzie.
Mid size forward Bauer.
Midfielders maybe O'Neill or Carmichael (notice I didn't mention the mercurial Sutcliffe :D ).

Connor Ballenden lead Woodville rucks against Adelaide by the looks of it and picked up 13 disposals, 10 hitouts, 2 marks and 7 clearances .

Reilly O'Brien picked up 37 disposals, 42 hit outs, 11 marks, 13 clearances, and a goal.

So, yeah. Who are the good mids again? ;)

The AFL has confirmed the 138 players available for selection in next week’s mid-season rookie draft.

Former first round picks Sam Durdin (North Melbourne) and Matt Ling (Sydney) are up for grabs, as well ex-Port Adelaide trio Boyd Woodcock, Joel Garner and Jake Patmore.

Other recently delisted players in the crop include Ned Cahill and Trent Mynott (Essendon), Will Hayes and Ben Cavarra (Western Bulldogs), Angus Schumacher (Carlton) and Ryan Garthwaite (Richmond).

Of the above group, Cahill and Hayes have been playing for Carlton’s VFL side, with Ling featuring for Geelong’s VFL team. Durdin has been playing for Glenelg in the SANFL. Jye Lockett, the nephew of AFL legend Tony, has nominated.

Four top candidates to be selected are Western Jets halfback Massimo D’Ambrosio, Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Jai Culley, Sandringham ruck Max Ramsden and versatile teammate Hugo Hall-Kahan.

The latter two have nominated for 18-month contracts meaning they must be signed until the end of 2023.

Connor Ballenden (Woodville West Torrens)
Jacob Bauer (North Adelaide)
Josh Carmichael (West Adelaide)
Lachlan Carrigan (Richmond VFL)
Jai Culley (Dandenong Stingrays)
Kallan Dawson (Williamstown)

apparently we are into Josh Carmichael (West Adelaide) for the mid season draft.

Josh Carmichael – A strong 189cm midfielder who trained with the club in the preseason before going back to play for Merbein in the Sunraysia Football League where he was voted as the Best Player in the competition for 2021. Wins his own football, has an elite work rate and makes excellent decisions with ball in hand.

Josh Carmichael playing in a game that is happening in both day and night. Hammer might be giving some insights.
