The whole ' potential to cause serious injury' is BS as they would have to rule anyone going for a speccy out if they were consistent

Exactly, along with smothers, spoils with a closed fist etc. It's good the AFL is taking concussion seriously, but there's only so much you can do without wrecking the magnificent blend of skill, speed and violence that makes Aussie Rules worth watching in the first place.

According to Andrew Embley on the radio, the AFL sent out a tweet/social media post saying something to the effect of ‘great act of bravery, tough but fair footy’ but was pulled within an hour of posting.

Definitely worth challenging, especially when even parts of the AFL hierarchy think it was a fair bump.

Tom De Koning put his knee right into the back of Nathan Broad’s scone on Thursday night but he’s been nominated for Mark of the Year for it.

That action has “potential to cause serious injury”. Will the AFL scrap the speccy?

Serious question, what happens if Willie marks it (with the exact same contact occurring)?

It's not like he was that far away. That can't be a suspension
This is exactly it. Had he been the one coming back with the flight then it is a different story, but just because the kick wasn't intended for him it doesn't mean he's not allowed to go for it.

Got there, effected the spoil, and braced for contact (braced after jumping). Plus it is pretty clear that in bracing he limited injury to both players.

So next time a player takes a screamer with their knee into the back of a head (their knee is up for their own protection) does that get a week, and much more if a player leaves the field or heaven forbid gets concussion?

The AFL have lost the plot.

In a shrewd move the AFL has decided to ban all knees, elbows, shoulders and hips to avoid the potential for injuries. Daniel Rich has already hopped on board and had his elbows removed as he currently doesn't really use them anyway.

I wonder how the Worsfold spoil running back with the flight on Modra would go these days. He actually punched the ball away first, just before Modra arrived and got knocked out.

The weird thing is the focus on him turning his body and taking his eye off the ball. What was he meant to do there? Cannon into Rowell front-on, clash heads and have them both leave on a stretcher?
Clearly he was meant to run as fast as he could in the opposite direction to the ball

They're not the brightest though. I remember North fans were a bit bemused that they used footage of Ziebull smashing into Riewoldt as an example of how tough footy is in an advert for the game...the same passage of play that earned Ziebull a suspension when it happened.

The ongoing conflict for the AFL of wanting to celebrate a Rioli but penalise the Eagles.

"this would be so much easier if he just played at a different club!"

Pffffft, good luck stopping David Grace QC on the back of his life membership induction. Guy is firing on all cylinders right now and is set to yet again make a righteous mockery of the establishment.
