David Grace is showing footage an older incident

It's involving another (former) Eagle, Brendon Ah Chee.

Grace says the incident was given by the AFL as an example of conduct which was deemed to have been unavoidable. He says the Rioli case reflects that example as both players were competing fairly for the ball.

The arrogance..

The AFL counsel says it's a "difficult matter" because it asks the tribunal to consider what is a "football act" and assess the potential for injury to arise from that.

Pane is citing rules surrounding careless bumps to a player's head or neck.

He points out that any careless bump that makes high contact and could potentially cause injury must be graded at a minimum of medium impact.

Pane says even if the bump was to the body, a player can still be guilty if the player's act was "unreasonable in the circumstances". For that to happen, the player being bumped would have to be in a vulnerable position and the force by the bumper has to be excessive.
Surely this loser has sunk his own case? How could the force be excessive if Rowell wasn't hurt?

no more speccies ok gaiz

The time has come for a player to adjust his behaviour in a contest to reduce the risk of injury to an opposing player.

Rioli said he thought his duty was to commit to the contest. Frankly, that's the problem. It's time for the player's priority to be protecting other players from injury.

wtf is this Pane guy on about... now talking about potential for injury ffs

don’t worry, I have found the AFLs blue print to ensure no potential for injury in future

Surely, a panel of previous players can't possibly buy this bull*#^! argument that "potential to cause injury" is the most important factor.
They'd be rubbing players out every damn weekend.

How many times in a game of football do we see a player go for a screamer, putting his knees on a player's shoulders, rising high into the sky to the acclimation of the crowd, and spilling the mark. Is he reported for rough conduct? No. Why? Because he was going for the mark.

You may remember what may be considered the bravest football act ever when Nick Riewoldt went backwards in the face of a pack screaming towards him. If he had not marked the ball, and had collided backwards into someone, knocking them out, would he have been guilty of rough conduct? The answer is no.

If Rioli had taken the mark, which he had set out to do, it would have been regarded a screamer. And it could have had the exact same effect on Rowell in terms of impact.
