Yeah I'd really prefer to see us hold him closer to goal a lot more of the time. Yes his ability to cover ground is a real feature of his game, but I think he will be far greater benefit to us if we can play him in more of an Alastair Lynch (late career)/Ben Brown (2021) type role. To me this is a win-win-win:Was talking with mates, but from what I watched Dan McStay very impressive.
Could be a big year for him I am hoping. One of the mates has a son playing for Melbourne and at one point offered “how clean are their hands.”
- Gives us better structure forward of centre, and won't require us to be quite as precise as we need to be when we kick to our smalls going inside 50.
- Defences will still be tempted to play their best defender on Joe Daniher. If that means their second or even third defender is closest to goal and is charged with organising the defence, well, be my guest.
- On the other hand, if they do choose to play their best defender on McStay, well that frees up Daniher and co a wee bit, and as a knock on effect may allow us to hit up our smalls inside 50 more easily.
