As great as we're playing, we'd probably be 4-4 at best without Charlie Curnow if he were still injured like the last few years.

Man what a return. 25 goals in 8 games which is about 3 goals a game. Near the top of the Coleman medal.

Right now, we do still rely quite a bit on him and McKay marking everything and kicking bags. With them in our forward line, we are always a chance and can look downright devastating at times.

Can say the same about the cats and the tigers to a degree.

Game clear in Top 4 :smilev1:

Thought Young was great again tonight and the position is his now... What a choice by Austin and got him for bugger all...
TDK and Boyd both had their best games for the club...

Really liked our smaller mobile backline tonight, GWS have a small forward line I'd be keep it as is.
Young is improving....not physical enough as a fullback. We will find out how good he is when the opposition has 2 key forwards- Richmond, Geelong, Stkilda and he has to lockdown on a gorilla

Weird looking at the ladder after Round 8 & seeing 14 sides beneath us.

just sayin’

The combo is the real killer...

Double team Harry and Charlie will get you.

Pay too much attention to Charlie and you make things easier for the reigning Coleman medallist.

And if you focus on those two, you leave Silvagni free. Plus the little fellas are piling on the pressure too.

Great mix.

Most pleasing thing is we’re building team & system. This cannot be underestimated when gauging the improvement of the individual.
You can see it with the improvement in Young. Weitering is slowly starting to believe.
From my perspective he’s been stilted with his game this year by the burden of carrying the KPD responsibility single handily.
He’s starting to become freer with the confidence in Youngs growing game. Add a fit Marchbank (please) and the cohesion this will build coupled with our small to medium defenders will see it become one of the better defensive units in the game over the next 12 to 18 months.

Parko would have loved that third quarter, the Premiership quarter is back. Very Happy to see Boyd play well, Charlie going gangbusters and Cerra showing his class. Unlike some others I was happy with Owies game, love his hard running and toughness. Enjoying Durdins development as well and he is getting more involved up the ground. Fish is having his best season to date, what a difference it makes to have smart coaches and playing in his best position.
Going forward I would like to see the inclusion of Marchy, Stocks, Kemp, Honey and Cunners. Of course Hewitt may play next week and hopefully he does. Then he would be the logical replacement for Martin. Been a very long time since we had this depth on our list.

Another tough game to get a read on because of how Adelaide capitulated for half the game, but in the end our tactical strengths just walked all over theirs.

It's ridiculous how little attention they gave to Fisher, or made any effort to draw defensive effort from him the other way. Bruise free football from the Crows.

I would still like another tall/medium with speed and/or agility. Just when the opposition thinks it has us covered in contested situations, along comes the player that consistently creates separation from his opponent. I'm greedy, I know.

I agree with this post big time.
Was just about to post the same sort of thing.
I didn't notice Harry and Charlie spoiling each other going for the same mark tonight.

They are in the same area at times, but they seem to recognise when the other is in a better position and stay down.

A few of Curnows goals he stayed down and ended up roving to McKay's aerial contest. Smart play.

Just praying that neither get injured as we really don't have anyone to replace them to play the same role and give anywhere near the same output.

It’s easy to overlook that we’ve only played a handful of games with this coach and this team. It’s still a work in progress, particularly in terms of the all the important little stuff that moves a team from middling to pointy end. Look at Saints - way less talent on the list than us but are seeing the benefits of a number of years of the same core group. (Benefits is a very relatively term).

Injuries willing, I really expect to see our best football of the year in the late stages.

Aside from completely enjoying the win I agree that North and Adelaide are hard to gauge our real position on.

It’s this next group of matches that hopefully shows we are a legit top 8 side. I think the top 4 bit is our draw playing out. Having said that, some of the players yet to come back full time in Marchy and Stocker really add missing ingredients For second half of season. A lot depends on when TDK meets a ruck in form and how he copes. Witts destroyed him. Pruess will be interesting physically next week.

Fisher has been excellent. But I’m interested too in him vs higher quality teams. I say this as I have knocked Young and Boyd and both were good. Young good for two weeks. I’m re-evaluating. Like you, I reserve the right on both Boyd and Young vs some quality. But I accept they are fighting hard to prove themselves.
