We are different team with a different belief and attitude this year. we will bury these cockroaches!!!
Hope so. Feel a bit more confident having someone tall enough and fit enough to play key defence next game.
Otherwise it was going to play an under conditioned Marchbank before his ideal time to return to seniors and just hope he got through.
Durdin has a week to get ready. Hope he spending a lot of time with Weiters so Weiters can give him a crash course is how our back six like to work together and he become the main key defender for June.

I am sure the main thing Durdin will be required to do is nullify 2 meter Peter and take a few bonus intercept marks. If we can keep stringer to an average game i think our defence will hold up. Game plan execution in regards to positioning and transition out of defence can be left to the others.

Apologies - I haven't followed this thread.

Surely Kemp is a better chance of being in the team than Durdin for RD13, his versatility is highly valuable to the team now.

I would be surprised if Kemp doesn't get first crack. Essendon only have the one monster in Wright so can afford to let durdin settle in with a reserves game.

Also coincides with Hewett being out and Carroll getting more time in the middle. His role clearly changed when Hewett came back in. Seemed to be more of a HFF role.
Another example of the need to play players in their best position not just play your best players...

I hope they both in the team. Durdin to play key defence and Kemp to play as interceptor role.
I suspect with Plowman in, Kemp may only be medical sub.

I would have thought Kemp would have had more games by now

He is fit and has a great future ahead of him - get games into him Vossy!

We are a finally serious football side.

Kemp will get games when he is best 22 available.

He still learning to play footy again after long time injured before any footy and then learning AFL systems and where his role in it is.
We need to be patient with him. I hope he played as much as possible but he been thrown forward in magoos to start this year and now back when Mitch got injured so still a learning curve of the role for him to play in seniors. I do not think it is easy role to learn with the injuries to our backline make it harder for Young and Kemp to settle in and just do their own role as been lots of adjustments in how we roll down there as a result. Weitering down makes it harder as he could teach them on the go but now he not there. Probably left to Docherty , Plowman and Newman to try to assist Young and Kemp learn the roles for them in backline.
Overall though , I agree with your sentiment. Play him as much as possible to fast track his learning curve but as supporters be patient as he probably needs a good 20 to 30 more games before he will be comfortable and settled in a role, week in week out.

Yes and I think he is improving with every game
If you look solely at the ruck position then yes perhaps we play a man down around the ground.
But the way we are playing now is seeing heavy compromise to the game of TDK and Cripps. Mirkov in as no. 1 ruck is a net positive for me

Mirkov will break. He needs another preseason.

If he's really that far off it and can't run I don't get why we even drafted him.

Because he’s very tall. He can jump. He gives the boys first taste (his tap work is very good). But after the centre bounce he struggles. Has gotten much better and is traversing more of the ground, but he’s not there yet.

Give him another pre-season and he could be something else.

I was pleasantly surprised how quickly we got durdin to PP.

Great to see both him and hayes already training with the boys.

I think durdin at least is a lock considering our desperate need for tall defender.

Bit hard to say whether Hayes will be selected. Im leaning towards unlikely for now but maybe in a few weeks.

Not sure he would last 5 minutes on field.

He'd be BOG mad Monday though

They play in an area of need, would not be surprised if they both played against *.

OUT: Weitering Motlop Newnes Carroll Cottrell
IN: Durdin Kennedy Hayes Martin Kemp

Kemp plays fwd and provides another option
JSOS plays a ruck roving/follower role
Martin on the wing, rotating with Hayes and LOB
Not sure who the sub is though

I agree we need another forward option apart from Charlie. Unfortunately for Kemp he hasn't been settled in a position and hasn't really been able to work on his craft at either end, but right now we need him to play a role forward.

Or we can just bring in ruck pinch hitter Ballend...oh wait...

Here's one to chew over.

Do we have enough fitness freaks to be able to carry Mirkov playing something like 50% gametime?

Probable best 22 for the next game - Walsh, Cottrell, LOB, Hewett, Cerra, Charlie, Doc, Plow, Newman, Newnes - there are a lot of blokes there who go all day without slowing down. Can potentially add Hayes to that list, as it seems he has a big tank too, just need to see who he'd come in for.

I wonder if we can get a little creative with our interchanges and find a way to spread the load a little more between those 10 or so guys, on the assumption that having an extra tall means we may not need to do as much defensive running.

I don't think he has played 4 quarters in any game of VFL yet and has managed to get himself injured ( twice) just jumping in a contest and landing awkwardly...people have very inflated views of this blokes current capacity - based on what I don't know. Base don watching him play in VFL I woudl say he is at least two pre-seasons and + 10 kilos away from being able to play AFL for extended periods....

There's definitely some hyperbole there. He's been in the system for a year now, so he's surely come a long way in terms of endurance compared to the beginning.

Let time know where the hyperbole was in what I stated - I'm always keen to learn especially from those self-declare a more phlegmatic mind.

Can't remember the post exactly, but if it is taking another 2-3 years or so for Mirkov to be somewhat AFL ready, that's not ideal.

I'd imagine we expected him to be a 2 year project before being AFL ready.

I dont even know what phlegmatic means tbh.
