If McKay, Kennedy and Martin come back, I think we're really close to our best 22, minus Weitering.
-Williams has his strengths, but his weaknesses means it's a toss up between him/Stocker/Newman for the 6th/7th defender.
-Honey/Motlop/Carroll all have a lot of talent, but Owies/Durdin/Cottrell are at least around the same level
-(Controversial) Pitto was definitely ahead of TDK as a ruckman, but I think we do function better when we had the TDK/JSOS combination. We get a lot more pressure up forward, TDK provides more around the ground...we do miss Pitto's dominance at the hitouts though.

***
Plowman Young Newman
Saad Marchbank Docherty

TDK Hewett Cerra
LOB Cripps Walsh

Owies McKay Martin
Durdin Charlie JSOS (R)

Kennedy (C) Fisher (F) Stocker (B) Cottrell (C)

Out: Weitering, Motlop, Newnes

***
If everyone was fit, the only change I'd make is Weitering in at FB, and Marchbank/Plowman fighting it out for the last spot as 3rd tall.

Need McGov in that side. Will be an elite third tall defender if he stays fit (so probably not).

Cripps likely hasn't featured in the votes since Pitto has been out, he has been less damaging having to fill other gaps for the team.

I think he would like to see Pitto back in the ruck. Me too, if it helps Crippas chances of a brownlow.

Pittonet and McGovern disapprove of this post

I think that's a feature of JSOS being needed as a 2nd tall though. Once we have McKay/Curnow/Martin as marking targets, we don't lose much when JSOS plays the secondary ruck.

What do you do with 2 of Doch/Saad/Newman/Stocker? Midfield rotations?
We have an incredible amount of depth right now. It’s no wonder we can lose players to injury from the backline and still have an abundance of options.

Yep. Have a look at the nigh constant pressure on the coaches of Essendon, the opinion of their hierarchy from Essendon people in the media and the fanbase throughout that time. The whole time, it's been solidarity externally with the undercurrent of frustration and anger. Players have been publicly put under the spotlight, coaches have been questioned, fired and hired with renewed scrutiny, the CEO's have been replaced, etc.

Their 'minimum pass' hasn't been met in those seasons, and while they made finals last year losing to us made that season's relative success dubious.
They beat us twice in '82. Do we consider our relative success that year dubious?

... did you read the original post?

There is a single success condition in the AFL. Failing to make that success condition means you have to reach a 'minimum pass' in order to ensure continuity of squad/regime/status quo; ie, you need to beat the teams you are rivals with/your fans dislike in order to keep the jungle drums from beating. Failing to do so puts your club under pressure; more in some cases, less in others.

Winning the flag means you've achieved the success condition of the AFL; you don't need to reach 'minimum pass' to ensure continuity. Your entire structure - from bootstudder to president - has just been demonstrated to have worked.
