Why can't Doedee just play the Luke Brown small defender role now?

Leaving Worrell to be the third tall interceptor

Didn’t think Doedee was that fast? Jones/Hamil to fill that Brown role. Sucks, as they both have that attacking instinct.
Doedee is one of our fastest in a straight line sprint. In saying that I still think he's our best third tall defender. He had an off year but still has potential AA quality in him

He's a good player but is not AA level.

Stewart, Sicily, Vlaustin, Lever and Ryan are better. Battle and Burton are probably on par.

Re the Poulter talk. Isn't the plan for Cook to have that wing role? I don't know much about Poulter, but how does he compare to B Cook?
Poulter isn't worthy to lick Cook's boots .....ask COLL supporters, Poulter's slow, with not a lot of tricks to his game

Favourably at both AFL and VFL/SANFL

see this is why just dumping a stats comparison of two players is utterly worthless. Cook is a much less physically mature player so Poulter is going to crap all over Cook in pure stats, especially considering the obvious fatigue Cook was showing late in the SANFL season tanking his stats. One of Cooks best kicks would far more impactful than one of Poulter's best kicks. Nankervis also shouldn't be ignored as a player competing for that other wing spot.

Slightly OT - I'm a fan of Cook, but gee he almost lost me in that game in the SANFL finals where he kept avoiding body contact and chose not to go when it was his time. Needs to toughen up a bit..

Josh Worrell will be our Corey Enright. In a premiership, hopefully. Great reader of the play at such a young age.
I'm not sure how they do it, but Geelong have a history of producing elite defenders with the ability to intercept in the mould of Enright.

What is it about their system that allows the intercept defender to be so impactful.

I honestly don't think it's solely about the player but the system they employ.

They just seem to have the smartest defenders that never have a brain fart.

I’d delist on that basis alone. I’ve seen nothing so far.

We don’t need squibs.

Give cook the kick out duties, have seen him consistently kick 70m barrels at training once

Incorrect, Poulter still has a way to go physically as well....and I've never seen him squib a contest like Cook has on occasions this season.

In fact I'd go so far as to say Cook was the most disappointing player on our list when his 1st season is used as a comparison.

You call it fatigue, I'd call it lack of 100% effort at the contest at the very least.

Has some tricks and a lot of talent, but needs to fix the flaws in his game if he's going to reach his potential.

Because they always have the modern game in mind when it comes to recruitment. Have always been ahead of the curve in terms of noticing trends/changes in the game, and they adapt really well.

In my mind they’ve always recruited for (and I would put Richmond’s defence under the same light):

  • Versatility
  • Plays taller than their height would suggest
  • Endurance
  • Quicker over the ground than their height would suggest
  • Ability to read the game

I think in some respects we have been slow to adapt to changes in the game. Saw Talia go out the door and thought ‘hey let’s bring in a Talia clone in McAsey, instead of realising the pace of the game has now probably going past the need for slow/cumbersome/dour/spoiling defenders. You look at the best teams going around and yeah, their defenders can spoil, but they have so many other weapons as well.

Local pub (Henley Cafe) talk is we are into Jordan Sweet. Haven’t seen enough of him to know enough.
If he can't get a gig at the Bulldogs why would we want him unless we're moving on a ruckman which we only have two of, surely we don't think he'd be a Frampton replacement??

That rumour has been going around, but talk was he wasn't super keen on leaving Melbourne to come back to Adelaide. Probably even moreso if it's to play behind ROB in the SANFL.
Sounds like bull to me with both ROB and Strachan contracted for 2023.

And in any case Strachan > Sweet
