see this is why just dumping a stats comparison of two players is utterly worthless. Cook is a much less physically mature player so Poulter is going to crap all over Cook in pure stats, especially considering the obvious fatigue Cook was showing late in the SANFL season tanking his stats. One of Cooks best kicks would far more impactful than one of Poulter's best kicks. Nankervis also should be ignored as a player competing for that other wing spot.

Incorrect, Poulter still has a way to go physically as well....and I've never seen him squib a contest like Cook has on occasions this season.

In fact I'd go so far as to say Cook was the most disappointing player on our list when his 1st season is used as a comparison.

You call it fatigue, I'd call it lack of 100% effort at the contest at the very least.
What Cook does well can't be taught or Darren Burgess'd into him, what Poulter does well can.

I’d delist on that basis alone. I’ve seen nothing so far.

We don’t need squibs.
On the other hand, we desperately need elite kicks in a team with far too many ball butchering spuds. Ideally, Cook would take over Smith’s rebounding role from half back.

JFC Cook only got on his bike about AFL when he was like 15 and he’s come all this way in a short time. Got games in yr one after shoulder concern. Maybe niggles there as well still.
Now it’s a compare model for who’s better between two guys played less than ten games. Get a grip.

I'm not sure how they do it, but Geelong have a history of producing elite defenders with the ability to intercept in the mould of Enright.

What is it about their system that allows the intercept defender to be so impactful.

I honestly don't think it's solely about the player but the system they employ.

They just seem to have the smartest defenders that never have a brain fart.
It's probably that they have a weird, narrow home ground they train and structure for

Think you're being tough on Doedee, measuring his poor 2022 v a few Worrell games

Let's correct you on a couple of points ....of Worrell's attributes you've slated, I'm afraid, poise and long accurate kicks is not .....at this point in time

Too often he grabbed the ball and kicked long, without regard for the player, next link in the chain .....so off the boot it looked long and accurate, but it wasn't to the advantage of the next player .....or kicked to the next player

Understandable though for a player in his early games .....he'll improve that
Let’s not act like you are in any position to correct me on anything. Thanks

Leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Give me Meek over him everyday of the week..Not that we will play any of them anyway as we're sold on ROB being our go-to ruck...

Settle. Original question was merely asking if they possess similar qualities. No comment on if they were good or not. Thought it was simply and inoffensive enough.

I hate to provoke anything but Brodie Smith is our commander in chief of the strategically inept long bomb out of defence.

I've just arrived home from the Geelong prelim and their ball use out of their backline is exemplary. We're miles off this standard yet.

All we do is bomb, hope for a scrap and/or a stoppage and repeat.

Josh Worrell has made a nice start but like nearly all our team (and coaches) we're like the boy with the barrow and still have the job in front of us.

Would be nice to see us try the "45" kick once in a while instead of always bombing down the line.

Yeah. A few more attacking risks would be good.

I sometimes think that Nicks knows we aren't at the standard yet and is therefore intent on building competitiveness until we have our squad to a more mature level.

What we need to do is a rule a line through players who can't execute the skills required to play the preferred game plan then. What we do though is stick with the continuity method and adjust game plan to suit the current group that gives us the best chance for the smallest loss. Why bother building competitiveness in players who ultimately don't have the skills.

That’s backwards. Our game plan should be built on the best players in the squad we have. As we draft or trade in new and different and hopefully better players we should tweak the game plan.

what hes saying is if you get to AFL and you dont have the basic skills you wont make it and those skills wont come
you're both saying the same thing

Well I think there has been some small movement in this direction. But everyone is frustrated at the slow pace of it. Certainly players we have targeted last couple years, there does seem to have been a different emphasis on skillls and I think we all hope that continues. But I'm afraid we still have a way to go to change the nature of our list.

exactly. Our forward entry strategy was long and deep because we can't rely on our mids to hit up targets in harder to defend spots. What we need to do is move on the mids that can't hit targets, instead we protect their weak skills by accepting a shit strategy of just pumping the ball deep.
