I've watched every game he's played and it's clear why they're persevering, but he has not shown enough to justify a senior opportunity.

Compare him to Worrall, who improved week on week and absolutely deserved what he got.

It's pretty clear we should have brought Worrall in about 8 weeks ago at this point. We don't need to waste so much time watching them in the SANFL.

Just throw them into the big leagues ffs. I am super excited by Worrel but the guy is 21 and played 2 games. He should already be at the 20-30 game mark.

And this will hurt the AFC Club further down the line in the years ahead when we should have been giving him experience in the past.

You do realise you don't have to reward players based purely on 'consistent' form, based on where we are as a club?

When Newchurch is ready to be playing consistently he is likely going to be say 22/23. Do we only then bring him into the AFL team, or do you want to have fast tracked his development so he is learning at the highest level - rather than in the reserves?

People need to start thinking more strategically about a lot of this stuff.
He hasn't shown that he's learning at any real rate at the SANFL level.

Look - I get it. He has a golden ticket around here. He's the definitive shiny new toy, that hasn't been tested so all he has is optimism.

But he'd be chewed up around here if he actually brought his SANFL impact to the AFL. Suddenly, this young kid would get the same attacks that this board gives to the rest of our squad.

100%

I'm adament part of the clubs problem is we leave players in the SANFL team for far too long and as a club we don't quite understand the concept of fast tracking development. We have been terrible at it for decades now, Walkers early career was riddled with this sort of crap.

Charlie Cameron would still be playing SANFL if it was up to one or two posters on here.
Cameron was elite at defensive pressure before he even played a trial game.

I'd argue he's the toy that the club seems obsessed with not only keeping in the packaging, but leaves it on the top shelf behind a padlocked safe.....

We don't even know what he looks like.

Nice way of saying he wasn’t dominating and statistics in the sanfl don’t apply to the Cameron example and why he is supposed to be so different to Newchurch.

You are wrong. It’s ok to be wrong.

Do you feel the same way about Sydney? They give players like Dawson long apprenticeships, so they're empowered to succeed when they get the chance.

Or is it more like Rachelle? We didn't seem to leave him in the SANFL too long. Hell, we probably rushed McAsey.

Different players need different things.

They have let him out to play SANFL for two years. You could have had a look then.

Lol, gee you've started posting some weird shit recently.

Cameron had an elite essential skill that he'd already demonstrated before he was given an opportunity.

Newchurch shows the POTENTIAL of being excellent, but hasn't actually consistently done anything yet.

I mean, disagree about the other stuff, but posting this when you're obviously incorrect just seems silly.

He didn't string two good games together.

He got a few Joe the Goose goals by waiting along deep in the forward line, but that wasn't worth rewarding.

He had one EXCELLENT game but hasn't been able to play a single decent game since.
joe the goose goals?..

wtf?..

ok… go ahead provide us all evidence of these joe the goose goals..

which rounds and what quarters were they in.

I doubt you’ve even got a sanfl pass.

I have and I’ve watched every game and even watched replays of every game.

he’s actually kicked **** all joe the goose goals all year..

do you know who has?.. Matty Wright.. he’s kicked a heap of them and whats funny about this is that its normally been Tariak directly dishing it over the top to Matty for Matty’s joe the goose goals.

the anti-newchurch brigade in here is fckn hilarious.

It's quite strange isn't it. It's some weird club protection racket.
The club can be wrong.

Lol, I watched every game Newchurch has played this year.

Before the excellent game against South, he got a while bunch of goals by waiting back and benefitting from the efforts of others.

Which is fine - small forwards do that all the time, they're meant to be opportunistic.

But he was ALSO meant to present more and get involved, and offer more competitiveness and defensive pressure, which has always been the issue in his game.

I'm surprised this is a controversial thing to post - a bunch of folks commented on it back then.

I just think it's okay to be honest about where Newchurch actually is at, and still want him to improve and be the player we want him to be.

And yes - Matty Wright has gotten a bunch of goals by hanging back in the square. No argument here.

To be so passionate about not playing a certain player thats never played a game and shown great potential, is probably a more worrying issue.
No, I just find the hypocrisy to be a frustration. Let's just be honest about where Newchurch is at and hopeful that he keeps improving.

I really wanted to see Worrall because he deserved it. And I'm frustrated that the club doesn't give Sholl an opportunity, as he's done a lot better recently in the SANFL, and seems to have genuinely tried to fix his issues.

I would have played Newchurch after his South game, but I also don't think saying "back it up" was that harsh either.

All I can say is if Geelong are interested in him I know which club I would trust in identifying talent, and it’s not the AFC.
Are you saying, by "gifting" Newchurch a game .....it'll starve off his interest in GEEL ?

GEEL have about 5-6 players already connected with possible moves to them ......it's the silly season

That said, 2 years of development in a player, is the right time for a club to target .....IMO, after incremental growth in Newchurch's game ...2023 should be his target

We have gifted 15-20 games this year to McHenry and Murphy. What's the difference?
