Personally think the club will pay for it if they give away Newchurch without understanding what he can do at AFL level.

Negligent.

If Adelaide gets Rankine, Newchurch doesn't matter.

(In the scenario both are true, as likelihood we'd probably offer a contract to Newchurch otherwise)

A well run club would have.
GEEL is supposedly a well run club .....they lost Clark because he .... a) wasn't getting games b) in his opinion was being played out of position

We can name most Clubs, whereby they make a player / players spend long periods in the 2nds .....for a variety of reasons .....no club deliberately goes out to stifle a players development ....not when each list spot is valued over $300K+

We have gifted 15-20 games this year to McHenry and Murphy. What's the difference?
That's simply your opinion .....which you are entitled too ....doesn't make it fact though

Mmmm ? .....let me understand your rationale

Newchurch is a good future player, deserving of opportunity .....however, if we get Rankine, who cares about Newchurch

ok then giphy.gif

Good to see, you're all in on Newchurch

Charlie Cameron would still be playing SANFL if it was up to one or two posters on here.

Just like people on Facebook, who can’t take criticism on players. I mentioned McHenry and someone said “he’s better than you”, no shit Sherlock.

It's such a weird thing to say too.

Like being a footballer doesn't automatically make you "better"

I'm sure there are plenty of people that do their respective jobs better than McHenry does his

When I was working in Canberra, I performed like McHenry and got paid like Dusty.

It truly was the best place to be if you work for the government.

Some comments on Newchurch from someone who also watches it (SANFL) a fair bit...
Surprising that the other watchers havent bothered to comment that a decrease in goals corresponds with a lot more time playing away from the forward line. At times he's on the wing. Other times he's been as far in defense as back pocket.
Also worth noting that earlier on this year, he was putting in some really good defensive efforts.
Its funny, when McAdam and he were both playing SANFL, their outputs werent that different. Food for thought. Do think his defensive efforts have dropped away a bit, not sure of the reason, could be instruction, could be complacency, could be something else.

The best thing about Newchurch is the improvement last year to this year. Like two different players. Huge improvement. If he does that again into next year, look out. I can remember the description that a club person had given to a poster on here of him in his year b4 drafting and haven't forgotten. Was a big call at the time. They look well on track to be vindcated.

Seriously though... it's Rd 21, Stuart Dew was extended a month ago and Rankine still hasn't signed on. Despite the Gold Coast article on AFL.com.au 5 days ago saying they're still confident he'll sign on... the Suns can't be that confident! The only way they'd be confident is if he's committed in principle and they're just trying to make the money work and it's within 50-100K.
Otherwise, he wants out.

Crows likely to have draft picks 4, 22, 40, 76 - is there any precedence out there on what they'd have to give up to get Rankine?
Would/Could we get him for just Pick4 or is that blatantly unders?

I think last year, Newchurch was odds-on to only last a year .....so many have commented on the improvement, this year over last

A stronger defensive aspect to his game .....I can see next year, another exponential jump in his game ...and hopefully more consistency, as he's a player that could add so much to this side

3 years is not too long to wait for a project Rookie

I can never understand this mindset. I'm fully aware that I cannot play footy, but I'm not being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to play it. If someone playing at the highest level isn't performing, then they have every right to be criticised. You don't need to be a multi-Academy Award winning director to know a movie sucks, you don't need to be a 5-star Michelin Chef to know a meal tastes like crap, and you don't need to be a professional athlete to know someone isn't up to it at the highest level.

it's frustrating the amount that people carry on about a player they clearly haven't seen.

If you've watched him play the last couple of years, you'd be more frustrated at Newchurch than the club.
It is “interesting” that the posters who constantly rant and rave that we should be playing Newchurch in the AFL have NEVER seen him play in the flesh.

I can’t recall a single poster who regularly turns up to watch our Twos who believed he should have been played in the AFL earlier in the season and has been crucified.

Tariek is like Cook and Nankervis (and I have been a fan of all three) in that he shows flashes of brilliance but he is not a top level SANFL players. There has been far less BigFooty noise about Taylor (and Soligo earlier in the season). They are just quality footballers who know how to get the footy.
