Can Crouch take Reid with him.
Who gets the credit for the Dawson and Rankine negotiations & deal ......Reid ?

Of course, he does ....we're too quick to crucify staff of the AFC ....without really seeing what they do, day to day ....we assume we know

Exactly. Lots of assumptions. Generally its based off the notion that if they have been there long enough they have likely ****ed up enough for them to leave.

Agree with this .....that, and if you see players treading water in development ....it must be, poor development, recruitment, or Reid ....for keeping that player on the list

However, when Drafting, you're projecting 4-5 years ahead ....some develop quickly, some slowly ....and yes, always some duds

Shouldn't people get better at their job with age/experience ? ......the heat of the rebuild speed would be heightened internally .....the spotlight, intense on every club role .....there ain't no complacency with anyone

Who gets the credit for giving Crouch 2 years and being in a position where he needs to find a home to move him on, which potentially could see us paying some of his contract or we pay him to play SANFL next year if he can’t and he takes up a list spot.

Fair comment .....can i counter with this ....2 years ago, just having lost Brad Crouch, and in the early stages of the rebuild .....Matt Crouch was important to retain

Now 2 years later, having added Pedlar, Cook, Soligo, Schoenberg, Rachelle, and Dawson, and with games under their belt.....it's not important to retain Matt, in fact, he's become redundant to the new Nicks gameplan

We signed him for 2 years at the end of last year after he missed the year with injury and when no one wanted him, we could have kept him for one. So there goes that theory.

I think 2years was fair given his history with the club. Don’t want to treat players like shit once they cop a long term injury

We've made far worse moves than this one, I don't really see the issue with it.

2 years is a pretty small deal and doubt we're paying a heap given the lack of interest. If he came good then we got an extra year on the cheap and if not, he's still a depth player we can call upon if injuries hit.

Also helps keep us over 90% of the cap so we can free up more the following year to throw at someone else.

When you’ve made so many bad moves whats another one, I like your rationale

Matt wasn't out of contract two years ago.

It's kind of hard to call a two year deal a geniunely bad one. Just a low risk move that didn't pan out, and of course, if he gets traded, we get more for Matt Crouch then we would have last year.

Correct .....however the list management discussions were happening 2 years ago, with respect to Matt coming out of Contract in Oct 2021

I dont reacon Betts is salty and hasnt been getting on with his life since the camp.. I reacon Betts wouldve been pissed off at the time but would‘ve moved on from that pretty quickly.

Betts is just bringing this up now because he has a book to sell.
I dont really know about the psych of our indigenous people but whilst they appear to have many problems within their communities they also have a greater relationship with their culture and history. Getting over some of the taunts and questioning may take longer. The average Aussie (hell what is the average Aussie these days anyway) doesnt have the strong family ties that many of the European population have. For the "average Aussie" I think we can dismiss those issues more readily. So I am not prepared to judge Eddie by assuming he could get over the camp quickly. I will say though that since Eddie has moved to Victoria he has done very well. He has been well received by the media over there, seems to get invited to functions and has grown in confidence especially with how he presents himself since joining AFL360. So I feel he has moved on to some degree but I think its taken him most of the four years since it all happened.

Oh Wayne, that is the mother of all clutches. He missed 2021 with injury and we signed him late 2021, if he had a suitor he was gone as a free agent and we were happy with that.

A list spot. We are so tight we are struggling to sign players such as Hinge.
And if we can't find the list spots and want to keep Hinge, just pay Crouch out and move on. There's no way this list should be pushing our salary cap and Crouch shouldn't be on huge coin based on how it played out last year.

So we pay another player not to play for us which was avoidable.

Maybe at one year he would have left? Maybe we figured a two year deal was a risk worth taking given his previous achievements?

Paying someones contract for a single season is hardly an issue in our current position. I honestly don't mind it as it'll help us get to the minimum spend and free up more cap the following season as a worse case scenerio.
