Worth noting that if we got Buddy as a FA it would mean that we would not get any compensation for McStay and we might need those points for Ashcroft and Fletcher.
You are correct Quigley but wouldn’t Buddy be an upgrade on McStay? I would have a guess that we will probably be swapping multiple picks for our first rounder and hope that Ashcroft does not get picked as the No 1 draftee , as this will give us a chance to pick a key position forward that we can develop.

I can't recall a player who has so obviously checked out on a season like McStay has. His body language and efforts have been absolutely shocking and really disappointing that he can't be professional enough to keep having a crack.
I am happy to give Dan the benefit of the doubt - he has always been a selfless player and maybe just a mix of poor form and not being able to get his head right around leaving. He still manages to do some really good things but sadly out of form/touch.

To be fair to him he's not playing any worse than a couple of years ago when many here thought he should be dropped.

Effort is sometimes hard to judge. You've only got to lose 5-10% of your motivation and it shows up a lot worse than what's in your head. I think he's still trying but probably dealing with a bit mentally.

Also Collingwood might want to trade for McStay anyway if they lose de Goey
Interesting wrinkle - the Pies have three third rounders (Hawthorn, Bulldogs, Richmond). Those will come out to be the equivalent of a very late first round pick, so we get a somewhat to a lot better compo (depending on whether McStay would generate an end of first round or a second round pick) while Collingwood get full value for De Goey.

Ha Ha
I thought lots on Lions BF would hate this proposal

But AFL is a business no matter what fans think of other players
Both contract status according to footy wire which may or may not be correct
If we are still in a premiership window next year both would be a good fit
Both are more like a normal KPF
Buddy really is a great big forward flanker
We already have two of those in Hippy & Daniher

Jack Riewoldt- Contract Status: UFA at the end of 2022 AFL Player Contracts
Taylor Walker- Contract Status: UFA at the end of 2023 AFL Player Contracts

Should have picked up Wright for nothing.

Bloody disappointing if Dev leaves. Seems a really popular of the playing group from what you see on socials and at the reserves games.

Feels like he has been mismanaged to me and not given the opportunity he deserves and held to a different standard that the likes of others that get regular games in the seniors. Will be gutwrenching watching him run around for another team for the next 10 years.

Surely this whole Buddy thing is just a bit of negotiation tactics to try and scratch out a few more dollars from Sydney. Why are we wasting time. Nothing to see here. Move along.

On SM-A525F using BigFooty.com mobile app

Possibly....although I was remembering when Buddy was wanting out of Hawthorn, everyone said he was going to GWS, next thing out of the blue he ends up at the Swans.

Could they be using us as a decoy for negotiations going on with Suns? Bud and Jacinta own a house on the GC and her family are there too I believe.

Makes more sense to me him going there.

Has there actually been a report or link to a Dev trade? Or has it just been people saying he’s not getting a game and will want to leave? Until there’s something actually reported I think people are worrying over nothing, he’s contracted and everything suggests he’s happy here and will continue to push for a spot that is well within reach.

Kill joy mattsmob !!! ;) :p:laughing:

If one of the greatest players of all time comes to your door step you take him.
Low risk high reward.
For marketing reasons alone you take him. He’s still a gun. And I think it would excite the playing group as well. I know I would want to say I played with buddy Franklin.

buddy will take the best defender allowing daniher & hipwood to free up.

As long as buddy is not on stupid cash that forces you to make undesirable list changes there's nothing but good to come out of this. he is free agent so you are literally not giving anything up.

Lions will obviously have to manage his body, but he's going at 2.4 goals a game. bloody respectful IMO

a great get for a contending team

Just on Dans out put too, it must be remembered he is playing back up Ruck. Not an all over excuse, I’m personally at the point of being pretty much done with his efforts, so I get it.

But - how many times to we see forwards take on the back up ruck roles and their over game diminishes, going right back to Travis Cloke, even joe struggled.

You can’t just go out and be a free spirited forward, you all of a sudden are getting pulled in and out of your momentum, using more energy and you have to remember all these sets/plays and tap directions. Your head is in a different space 40% of the game.

Not easy and along with FA speculation, has coincided directly with his form decline.

I do agree. He is having to do a lot of the dirty work that Joe and Hippy cant do at the moment. He spends more time in the ruck and running up the wing than they do. Its a tougher role for sure and gets less chance at glory than they do staying in the forward 50.

He isnt in great form - but the backup ruck/forward has always been one of the toughest and least recognized roles on the ground.
