I don't want to get anyone's nose out of joint but Dev doesn't strike me as a player with much of a high ceiling.

He's a bit of a workhorse who also plays smart but I don't see him in your top 3 m/fers for instance.

I'm happy to keep him and play him but I don't think he's any star.
He doesn’t need to be our best midfielder.

I disagree with some of the post saying things like pick 20 return for him would be a good return.

I posted above, he was one of only a few to really dig deep in the prelim. Really had a dip.

17 possessions in the prelim. He’s 21. Often a player grows that to a 25 possession average in their 5th and 6th year.

He showed winning the Larke medal in u18 champs he can find the footy. In the champs he accumulated 119 possessions to beat the record held previously by Sam Walsh.

Yes, it’s exciting to bring in players like Gunston. But you don’t bring in a 30 yo and trade out a 21 yo. Lunacy.

Not everyone in your 22 is a superstar. Look at Geelong. Not everyone is at Selwood or Dangers level….Duncan, Close, Guthrie, Myers, Atkins, O’Connor, Parfitt.

Dev is a workhorse. He can play a bit ugly at times, but so did Lingy, Brett Kirk, and Liam Picken.
They did and he does.

I don't think Dev is anywhere near the class of Ling or Kirk. Nor has the physical presence.

He's a good honest player with some upside but Neale ,Clug, Dunkley are classes above.

No knock except people seem to have such high expectations , unwarranted on what I've seen.

I thought Robertson looked particularly good combining with Ashcroft in the VFL. He could quite easily become our Atkins IMO. The guy who gives the stars a chance to star through his pressure, work rate and tackling.

That record is now held by one W. Ashcroft. Who also won a Larke medal.

I don’t disagree but how many spots do we have in the midfield? Neale, McCluggage and Dunkley are certainties for me. Going forward Ashcroft, Bailey and Rayner are all worth giving time to in there, going beyond that if Berry is physically capable to play inside mid he would also go ahead of Dev.
I agree none have Dev’s pressure and intensity outside of probably Berry and Dunkley but those two also offer more in other areas of the game. We could find ourselves in a similar situation to earlier in the season when we’re picking Dev to mainly play forward and if that’s the case I’d rather Lohmann in that role.

Dev is 21.

Yeah, I'm sure you were waxing lyrical about Ling & Kirk at the same age.

Lol, give me a spell.

I see Dev playing wing next year. Covers the ground and is very disciplined. Equally, will be a contested bull when stoppages are on his side of the ground.

Robertson - Dunkley - Berry
Oscar - Neale - McCluggage
Rotations: Ashcroft, Rayner, Bailey

Every trade period, there’s lots of swapping and changing to get the best deals. Brisbane have more need than most this year with their F/S, Gunston, and Dunkley. Therefore extreme deals are needed, and lots of points gathering.

Brisbane to get J. Bowes + 7 + 25 + 34
Gold Coast get T. Berry + 33 (their main focus will be their Rankine trade)

Brisbane get E. Ratugolea + 18 + 36 + 46 + 51 and 54
Geelong get J. Lyons + 7 + 43 + 69 (Lyons is an immediate replacement for Selwood, and 7 gets Jhye Clark in the draft. Also Geelong to pitch in $250,000 for two years to easy the Bowes salary dump. They probably pay Lyon less than Selwood, so the money will be there.)

Brisbane gets J. Dunkley + 37 and 65
Western Bulldogs get 15 + 18 ( the two first round picks they are demanding)

The J. Gunston and D. McStay trades would just about cancel each other out points wise, whether there were trade swaps or compensation.

Brisbane end up with 25, 34, 36, 37, 44, 46, 51, 54, 65 = 3545 points banked
If W. Ashcroft is pick 1 and J. Fletcher is pick 10 = 3417 points needed
of course that improves dramatically if North Melbourne don’t bid on Ashcroft and Fletcher slides a bit further.

Brisbane‘s gains are Ashcroft, Fletcher, Dunkley, Gunston, Ratugolea, and Bowes (with a salary dump reduction of $250,000), and not having to use future picks or go into points debt.

Gold Coast end up with 31, 33, 52, 67, 70, T. Berry who replaces Rankine, and what ever they get for Rankine.

Geelong end up with 7 (to be use to get J. Clark in the draft), 43, 60, 69, and Lyons, but pay some of Bowes salary.

Western Bulldogs end up with 11, 15, 18, and 29.

Brisbane may even look to be involved further into the draft if they think Ah Chee, Sharp, Answerth or Cockatoo hold any currency, despite being guaranteed Ashcroft and Fletcher.

Don't mind it but then if it comes down to Bowes or Dev to play on the wing I think Bowes has far more class and runs on the board especially in that role. If we don't end up with Bowes I think it's Dev's spot to lose.

id rather bailey spend nearly all of his time as high forward flank, rotating onto wing occasionally and give his and zorko's split of cba's / on ball time to dev

zorko done as a midfielder. pressure fwd next year

JL's minutes go to dunkley

Ah, you watch Dr Phil. That’s sad. I can see it’s a bit overwhelming. Just swap draft picks for jugs of moonshine and the dots will join up.

Wow that was mean

Gunston is an upgrade replacement for Mcstay, has absolutely nothing to do with dev spot on the list. I like Dev but as it stands at the moment he's on the fringe and now dunkley and Ashcroft are coming in can't see a spot for him, those type of players get mentioned in trade periods, if he goes so be it.

Mr Mackey and Dr Phil? This is a Brisbane site. I’d expect such armchair expertise to come from the Collingwood toothpaste avoiders.
From the guy suggesting a trade that involves 2 players and 8 picks…

Is that an example of armchair expertise?
