Just a point to note about a potential Mathieson trade. It will not free up a senior list spot as he is currently rookie listed.

I believe the AFL rule still applies where we can only use the same number of draft picks as senior list spots we have available.

Currently that number would be 2.

Outs - Robinson, E Smith, McStay, T Berry
Probable Ins - Dunkley, Gunston

We'll need to take 5 picks into the draft to match on Ashcroft if pick 21 is used as part of the Dunkley trade. So looking like at this stage we'll need to delist some more players off the senior list (and maybe try to pick them up in the rookie draft).

Lester, McFadyen ?

Fullarton would be the other option if we wanted someone off the list who is uncontracted. Otherwise, maybe Cockatoo? Although he has a contract
If you delist someone to relist them on the rookie list it's generally someone you don't mind if they get poached, i.e. a delisting candidate that you happen to have under contract for more time, or would decline to get poached, i.e. a senior player who would retire if picked up elsewhere.

Otherwise you're opening yourself up to a Banfield or a Greenwood scenario (neither of which I believe the delisting club was cut up about, but it happens).

The other note is that moving to the rookie list to open up the senior spot is only beneficial for the slot re: the draft if you're moving a contracted senior player, e.g. Cockatoo. For uncontracted players like Lester and McFadyen, if we want them back and no one else is interested, we could just take them with late picks in the ND or re-sign them after the draft even if we don't move them to the rookie list.

I’m sure trade radio will upload the interview but here are some tidbits:

Bit to get through, but exciting. Still want to split more picks for points.

Not going to go in to specific details of the Dunkley trade. Discussions with the Dogs. On track to get the deal done. Hopefully ticked off in the next few days.

Concentrate on Gunston deal now. Thinks/wants a deal later than 30-odd but Hawks want more (obviously)

Good relationship with clubs. Can be a bit heated at times but respectful.

Mathieson’s manager indicated to them earlier in the week he might seek a trade but nothing official. Haven’t had talks with other clubs about him yet.

Wanted to keep Berry, but understands he wants more opportunities.

Hopes North doesn’t bid for Ashcroft at #1. “Hope they do the right thing for us 😂

Specifically mentioned Wilmot and Lohmann, more about them adding speed to the team next year.

Still having convos with Fages about the list and moves they’re making. Still very much part of the club. “Right now, he’s still our footy coach.”

Had a discussion with Bowes, but was more interested in going to Victoria than staying in Queensland.

The attraction was the whole package, not just pick 7. Dom Ambrosio has a connection to Bowes so was genuinely interested in him.

No changes to any coaching (line coaches or otherwise). Same crew. Discussions with Fages ongoing if any small changes will be made internally.

Have had discussions with Zorks about the captaincy. Players have a small say in who will be captain but match committee will make the decision.

No club has asked about Rayner. “Such a great young man. Had about three of four discussion with him in the last two weeks assuring him there is absolutely no way they’re trading him.” Bringing his brother up to play VFL next year.

EDIT: This is all paraphrased so I would HIGHLY recommend listening to the whole interview. He was quite impressive.

Reported Lions traded a future 2nd with Berry. So unable to now trade a F1st.

And they already traded this years pick 15.

How are they landing Dunkley with no 1st round picks available to use then?

What decent player will be involved that is equal to a 1st rounder?
Was it ours, or the Giants’ F2 which they got from Collingwood in the Hill trade?

Your conclusion is incorrect.

We traded a F2 after receiving an additional F2.

So we're back to square one with F1, F2, F3, etc, and hence still able to trade our F1.

Firstly thank you for posting this so I don't have to listen trade radio ;)

This is interesting as I've always heard the players especially say they vote on the captain, making it sound like it was mostly their decision.

Do people become more gullible during trade period?

We can trade our future first because we brought in Giants’ future second.

Araphrased. Players pick leadership group and captain but match committee has input. Asked zoroko to think about if he wants to continue when on break.

I’m pretty sure we can trade our future 1st because we brought in Wilmot and Lohmann last year pretty sure the rule is you need to use 2 years of first round picks on players
That's not the rule people are discussing here. That is a rule - you need to use two first round picks over four years (though the AFL was signed off on exceptions from time to time), but the relevant rule right now is that you need to retain either a future first round pick or future picks in all the later rounds. If we end up in a situation where, for example, we had no pick in next year's second round, we wouldn't be able to trade our future first round pick.

Note that this is not the case at the moment because we traded in GWS's future second round pick and traded out our future second round pick, so we still retain a pick in the second round and each later round next year.

The bold bit is confusing, AFL website says we traded out GWS second round, I have also read that the second rd pick we got and on traded to the Suns is tied to Collingwood.

Maybe Amrogio is the only one that can clarify this?

This popped up in the app update but it's the only place where this has been reported, so it's almost definitely wrong.

NAB AFL Draft - AFL.com.au has us trading in a pick tied to GWS and trading out our pick.

I can't get the AFL trade tracker to load, but here's Fox Footy's summary of yesterday:

11. GWS gets Pick 15. Brisbane gets Pick 21 and the Giants’ future second-round pick.

13. Gold Coast gets Thomas Berry, Pick 46 and the Lions’ future second-round pick. Brisbane gets Picks 25, 36 and 56.

You can pretty much bank on the fact that we currently hold GWS's F2 and GC holds ours.

Really the stupid comes out in trade period led by the media. Lloyd asking Damo if a pick in the 30s for reasonable for Gunston. That's what we ******* got for McStay. We might as well take Gunston as a free agent
Lloyd wrote a quality article about which clubs could win the flag next year and who couldn't. 9 teams cant, 8 teams can.

We just didn't exist.

That was appalling to be honest , just missed us out completely .

If this is the case Ambrogio has not been given enough credit for generating this outcome. Sensational stuff.

Trade tracker specifically has us trading out GWS' F2, as does our twitter.

That’s not correct.
Lloyd discussed this with Kane Cornes on trade radio. The quality article was written by a SEN reporter based on the trade radio conversation.

It wasn’t Lloyd that left us out.
