Was that the trade benbanjo ? So we would‘ve got Brodie and pick 19, for our 2022 second rounder? I didnt think our second rounder was involved. Not as great a deal then, so that makes more sense why we didn’t do it.
I literally thought it was a salary dump by GC
Yep, so their pick 19 last year for our pick 19 this year and Brodie, so Brodie for free pretty much, which looking at it now is still a decent deal.
Freo sent back their second this year.

To be fair Brodie and Macpherson were basically on the same level last year, the difference is we needed a small forward option and we didn't need a midfielder that had put up what Brodie had at GC (even Constable was a more appealing prospect). Considering we were not in discussions for Brodie we dodged a huge bullet on this one because we still would have had to find something for CCJ and then we would have had Darcy Macpherson on our list.

Freo don't mind playing a few shots though. Cam McCarthy, Reece Conca, Shane Kersten, Harley Bennall all come to mind.

Importantly though they rarely seriously dilute their draft picks with their trades. Luke Ryan was a gem of a pick.

Right who is getting the chop at seasons end?

I'll say I wouldn't be renewing Kayne contract. P Walker, Atu, lynch gone.

I wouldnt be surprised at 1 year deals for Goldy, Hayden, Young, Jed, Hall and I'd keep Walker as a break glass player. I'd like to see McGuiness get a run, or if he keeps good vfl form give him another year.

I'd take whatever offer we get for X and move J Archer to the rookie list.

So what's that, 5 spots on the main list? Probably not enough for ND, Trade, SSP and MSD.

Mcguinnes can still have 1 more year as a catb because they changed the rules last year so defs can afford to give him another deal if he keeps his current trajectory. He's looking okay

Would need to give Goldie two years if X is gone, moving Archer to the rookie list wouldn’t serve much purpose for a 2nd year player in contract. Anyone we took in the main draft to fill that spot would be a late pick anyway. Might as well rookie someone then.
Maybe our shitness allowances will come in the form of two extra list spots for three years.

Gold Coast after a Kosi Pickett type?

They have 3 stars.

Isaac
Malcom
Jeffries

3.

They are desperate for some of Krafty’s selflessness.
Serious question, why bother with them? Clearly you don't rate mahony yet you have GC falling over themselves to get him in. Newsflash mate, gold coast aren't the dumping ground anymore. We are.

I think Gold Coast is still an option worth pursuing.

They have some talented players who can’t get a game in the seniors ie. Flanders, Fiorini.

With their cap situation we should be able to pry them out on the cheap.

Because unlike you I see football, I don’t just look at it.

Mahony is perfect for the Gold Coast, he is the missing piece.

They need blokes, without ego, without talent to just run, tackle, run and tackle, they have all the class in the world, but don’t have a selfless campaigner to do all the grubby things and lock it in. Enter Krafty.

It’s a win win trade. They move picks to next year they likely couldn’t have used this year due to their list size.

Listen UG, these Del Boy tricks might work at the Bangkok night markets.

But AFL clubs (other than ours) generally know that a spray-tanned Jack Mahony wearing a Billy Ray Cyrus wig and Western Bulldogs top still isn't actually Bailey Smith. And they certainly won't throw you a 2nd rounder just to find out.

I’m only asking for 3 picks they won’t use.

They won’t use them or: they have no value to them (really).

It’s Mahony + 37 + 55 > 38,42,46.

This is Gold Coast, they gave away pick 19 last year, you’re telling me that due to list sizes, and improving nature of their squad, they won’t have enough 1st/2nd rounders and priority NT selections/Academy Selections they’ll need to enter the general player pool in the 3rd round?

Good chance you can get those picks, probably even more likely when GC negotiate for us to keep Mahonys. He wouldn't get on any other clubs main list. Not now after the world has seen him play anyways.

He’s on our list and is an automatic selection.

Christ, we would rather fold than send out a 23 sans Mahonys.

I’m broken just thinking about how far our standards of dropped as to what our definition of what constitutes an elite-level footballer.

Yep it's ****ed up man, ****ed up.

NORTH MELBOURNE

Can North Melbourne actually afford to lose Todd Goldstein?

Tristan Xerri has had two excellent 20-possession games and been so-so apart from that, while Callum Coleman-Jones has two total goals in four games.

The Roos can’t afford to get worse and would get very close to nothing for a departing 34-year-old ruckman who might get a two-year deal elsewhere.

So what do the Roos do with their bucketloads of cap space?

Glenn Luff, tasked with most of the pro-scouting workload, would have had ideas but he walked out last week.

A Jordan De Goey type wouldn’t come to the Suns.

The experiences of Jaidyn Stephenson, Aidan Corr and Coleman-Jones, who have got worse at the Roos, wouldn’t have player managers pushing their players to get to Arden Street.

It’s why the Roos simply must close the season with some spark and enthusiasm.

Their first call should be to a Josh Kennedy type at Sydney to see if he would fill the Luke Hodge leadership-at-Brisbane role, but the Roos believe Hugh Greenwood is their man on that front.

I can't believe I am saying this, but we need a Brandon Ellis type - hard worker from a successful club to show the kids (and the club) what an elite training/playing work ethic looks like. After experiencing success he left purely for money (good on him) to set himself up for life after footy.

Brayshaw would be an improved version, whether he is as motivated by money is another question
