I was thinking about this point yesterday. The fact they used pick 11 in 2020 to get sharp at 27 in 2019 was their own stupid fault. Of course Geelong were the winner again from that transaction, what’s new.
The simple fact is that Sharp was regarded by the 18 club recruiters at the 27th best player in his draft.
Just because those dumb fools at GC used pick 11 - not our problem.

GC used it, because the afl left it open to remove this compensation at their own will. Obviously if it’s traded they wouldn’t have the opportunity to take it away. It was GC who then offered it to Geelong late in the draft. Presumably up until that point no one had wanted the future pick.

Logue was clearly an athlete, ok footballer projected to become an above average footballer - hindsight- Tim English at pick 9 and more so Shai Bolton at pick 29 - if you are considering WA boys only would have fitted in perfectly …. Big year 2016 for busts and under achievers.
Athlete, not a footballer. He was a pick 8 bust.

Logue used to be a rower from memory, I think The Worst reported that. I remember the big reason we shouldn’t pick up English on these boards at the time was ‘ he can’t hold a mark’…which is ironic considering we ended up with Logue instead.

Would be content with pick 21. Still next years first would be epic.

Just not sure about not having any picks in this draft. I know it’s shallow, but doesn’t feel right. Rather keep 21 than trade to GC for Sharp. Back in Fredstar or Worner to take on the wing spot.
Don’t forget Drizzle

Yes both can't hold marks however Darcey when he's playing at his best is a very good mark and for a ruck is an accurate kick for goal.

I have no problem picking up Logue instead of English with Luke Ryan and Darcey coming after those picks.

If Meek is traded we’ll get a pick.

What we receive from Lobb will go to GC for Sharp.

Possibly no ND players coming in??

The draft has unlimited rounds. Even if we don't have a pick in the first 4 rounds we'll use a 5th, 6th and 7th round picks.

Probably back to back in the 60's.

My memory of the knocks on English on this board were exclusively that he was skinny and would take too long to become a top level player, which should never be a reason not to draft a talent, and I'm sure it wasn't for our recruiters.

I recall it being ‘a reach’ to take English at 8. Quite a few wanted him.

Our recruiters targeted Darcy instead of English. I don’t mind that at all.

Darcy, Cox and Ryan all ahead of Logue in that draft and all drafted outside of the top 30. Logue a bust imo

I don't think he's a bust. If he was played as 3rd talll half back he's pretty solid. Making him part time ruck and pushing him forward wasn't his strength. He was average at best.

Geez, if you think the Luke Jackson thread is bad, get a load of the JHF ones. **** me dead.

The Norfies are broken and just want to take their pain out on the world

So in the hypothetical situation where we need to trade Lobb before Jackson gets done do we
a - Trade in a late round 1 pick, which Melb tries to make part the Lobb trade
b - Take the same or more value in F2's and F3's so that Melb don't ask for them and then trade them later for a round 1 pick

Lol - a bust. He’s going to play 200 AFL games at least over his career and has just signed a $3.5m deal over 5 years but you think he’s a “bust” 😂😂😂

Gallucci at 15 is a bust - now a part time footballer at south Fremantle. Some fall from grace after 6 years.
SPS at 6 will probably be delisted next year - bust.
Setterfield at 5 scraping around OOC at Carlton and trying to get to Essendon on base wages - bust.

It's hard to argue, especially when he was supposed to be the safe pick as the WA born player and the argument is that our group drafted was good and he would still rang last in that group and was taken earliest.

2016 is actually a pretty disappointing first round in terms of any star quality.

He was 100% a bust for Freo.

Who cares what he does from here, it’s just speculation on your behalf anyway.

It’s a pretty uninspiring list. Darcy, Cox and Ryan are all easily outperforming most of the top 20 from 2016.
Just goes to show that draft picks can be over valued, especially in a weak draft
