Would we have to trade with Essendon to sign him?

Only 7 seasons and I don't think he was delisted after his retirement.

Essendon

Tom Cutler (del), Tom Hird (del), Michael Hurley (ret), Garrett McDonagh (del), Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti (ret), Devon Smith (ret)

Taylor is he a dfa or would we need to trade for him?

I think dfa, like Jones

He'll be 30 in April, and wasn't considered fit at Essendon before retiring.
He'd want to be cheap, willing and able to put the work in before I'll get too excited.
He’s only been playing 5-6 years. He’s not exactly beaten up. 30 is not old. Muscle memory is a thing. We have a great support system. This could work.

Although he'd be massively behind the 8 ball in regards to fitness, yes, f***ng yes please!!! Tippa fills a huge need and instantly makes us better

Back in Andy, Serong and Walters to get his fitness back over pre season

“I think for Anthony, his lifestyle and everything, he’s had a fair bit going on. I think it’s the environment he needs and if he feels it’s best to leave Victoria, well, I’d be comfortable with that.”

The Bombers missed McDonald-Tipungwuti’s services in 2022 and struggled to kick consistent scores, with only two players (Peter Wright and Jake Stringer) kicking more than 20 goals.

“When Essendon were going, 'Tippa' (McDonald-Tipungwuti) was absolutely on fire,” Lloyd continued.

“So he’s got to work out, ‘do I want to do the work, do I want to have to do months and months to drop the kilos that he needs to get back to match fit?’

“But I hope he does because he’s a serious talent and he might be one of the blokes that regrets it in 10 years… I hope he has a good crack at it.”

He was contracted to Essendon for this season only so we trade for him. If Essendon are content for him to go they will have him delisted and we will pick him up for nothing but they hold the rights to his contract until the end of the month so it's really up to them.

Can’t see a trade getting done given this is only coming out now.

I can see this being like Liam Jones where Carlton still had rights to him as a player. Difference is AMT is not a free agent at this stage.

Essendon could also offer him a contract and force him into the draft but I don’t think that happens.

SPP would be a serious option imo. He’s apparently a little out of shape atm so giving him the Pre Season before deciding to take him on might be the best option.

I agree on all aspects. I think from a player welfare point of view the security of a contract in place prior to climbing the mountain, moving to Perth and starting the hard work, there's a huge risk that you'll shift over and get injured - then not picked up and you're out on the skin of your arse.

If we are looking at it clinically AMT is a huge risk and huge reward. Put him in the team and he will make things happen and he plays a position that can be carried.

I think a short term contract with a very easy to reach threshold trigger for an extension would be appropriate motivation and security protecting all parties.
One year, if he plays 10 games he gets a second year at more money. If he kicks more than 40 goals he gets two years on even more money.

If we get tippa.only my opinion..if he is able to get his love of football back, he would be an asset to our younger players, a great sounding board for our indigenous players and other players of colour.. not to mention elite levels of playing the game.i for one.. would wrap him in a blanket of purple love..we would look after him.
