No Reid replacement in our range... at the moment it looks like another year of best available

Or we open the bank vault and the draft cupboard and go all in on an established player/up and comer that meets our needs.

Easier said than done and I'm sure we wouldn't be Robinson Crusoe with that idea, but hopefully some 'star' will fancy the prospect of getting out of the footy bubble, moving harbourside and joining a young exciting team than is likely to be about the mark for the foreseeable future. And get well paid in the process. 🤞

Bangers list includes Sam Frangalas a 187 mid from Dandenong Stingrays. Ithink he might be the son of Gary who was a terrific player for us in the early 80s.

Just to add. Gary was one of our Players who opted to stay and train in Melbourne rather than make the move to Sydney. Bernie Evans was another in that group. The Club eventually insisted the Melbourne based players move to Sydney or leave. Remember jobs and accomodation were hard to acquire in Sydney.

Gary ended up atRichmond and did a knee which stuffed his career.

One of the myths is that all the players at the time supported the Sydney move. This was not true. Some never forgave Browning and his role, the treatment of Mopsy Rantall and installation of Quade. Pete Morrison, a terrific ruck rover, said get stuffed and moved to the Pies.

Or a manbun wearing lad from out Homebush way decides he wants to play in front of actual passionate fans!

This is me already thinking about interactions I'll have with a few posters during the 2023 draft period.

Mitchell Edwards is described as a ruck/forward and could be around our range.

I like the idea of trading up the draft and grabbing Archer Reid, if it's possible and we don't trade in someone more established. We've got two first rounders (including our future first) and Hawthorn's 2nd rounder, which is a fair bit of capital to work with. And we don't really need any more high draft picks this year or next. We can be contented for a year or two with the likes of Chad Warner, Caleb Mitchell, Corey Warner, Matt Roberts, Lachie Rankin etc.

Lot of water to go under the bridge but seeing the lack of height in that group I suspect we would not be the only club with that idea. He does look handy. Be interesting to see how things develop as the season progresses.

Doesn't need to be a first rounder. Been referred to above as a "Reid replacement", Reid being drafted at pick 38. Tom McCartin would have made a good KPF, drafted at 33.

We've also seen good/solid KPFs drafted from the 2nd round through to rookie selections. They may not be your Buddy or Hawkins etc, but you can be a successful team with a few good contributors (considering at least 1 of Logan, Amartey, McLean will surely have a long, decent career). E.g. Chol, Mihocek, Lewis, Ben Brown, Darling, Taberner of current players.

One thing though, given there's a host of people who'll discount any KPFs that aren't in the top 10, you're absolutely zero chance to find a solution to KPF shortages if you don't select any.

Hopefully Logan, Amartey and McLean have great years and we're confident of their place in the 22 after this year (assuming the latter two don't get poached based on limited opportunity). But then unless Owen was drafted for his forward potential, it's a position we should address this year, or we're relying purely on those 3 making it and zero depth, while the rest of the team are primed and ready (Ruck question marks aside).

Wasn't this draft supposed to be full of good talls?

"They just haven't come on"

"Next year will be better I swear, we'll get one then"

"If they aren't there next year, we can use our picks to just trade in a gun. Simples."

Tbf, my draft mood last year improved a lot with the rookie draft, us actually getting in a ruck/fwd (Owen) and someone I thought might be a good get in our pick in the 40s (Magor), then adding Edwards.
