Cunners?
Out or in?
Ahh, that's what 2 in the morning does to you. I like what Cuners has to offer, so I think that means someone like Fogarty... but I really like what Fogarty brings when he's up and about... glad I am not the match committee... I just don't want us to drop too many runners if Pitto returns (which I think he should).

I'm not as confident with the team, especially as it seems they've tapered off a little in recent weeks. Hopefully this bye does them wonders.

While Sydney's Key Position stocks don't scare me much, they are certainly no pushovers.

Their run and carry is pretty impressive. The likes of Gulden, Warner, Stephens and Campbell around the ground. Then there is Papley, Hayward and Wicks with their forward pressure.

I think the finals experience and larger ground prove advantageous for them. We need to get back to the ground ball dominance and at least match their speed. Otherwise we will most certainly be ran off our feet.

The Acres news was promising today. If he is fit, he plays. Hollands makes way and Walsh plays the wing with his elite endurance.
McKay has to partner up with Charlie and stretch the opposition defence. Can't have him in the ruck unless it is inside attacking 50. Would also like TDK to pop up forward to help more often. So despite previous thoughts, Pittonet plays.

Motlop for Durdin IMO. Motlop's X-Factor should not be ignored.
I love Fisher when he is at his best, but as someone pointed out, he is a dependant. He doesn't inspire a team into form, he doesn't create play the way a player in his position should. Getting the ball is one thing but providing physicality and instigating defensive scoring chains are vital. I feel he lacks these. I prefer the dare from Boyd, who will throw himself at the contest and rebound.

Doc and Crippa come in. Pretty obvious.

But despite all this, my heart says Carlton... while my head says Swans. Hoping I'm wrong.
Does Walsh to the wing work? I’ve seen it mentioned a lot but
1. Do we want Walsh playing outside of the contest and
2. Is Walsh capable of sacrificing his game out there if required?
I think if it’s going to be anyone it’s got to be Doc chopping in with Acres and Cotters playing there predominately.

People shitting on Fisher for Sunday's game, yet Martin was clearly worst on ground. I'd be dropping him for Motlop.
Totally agree that he was basically irrelevant but they won’t be dropping him. He just got the run into his legs and was never going to do what he’d done the last month as he knew an injury would make his 2023 over. He just stayed in the forward line. Didn’t run up the wing or even into d50 as he and others didn’t want to destroy his chances of having finals impact.

A voice of reason!

Very good, just one change for mine. Swap out Marchy for Boyd. Dow to sub, he is great in this role.

Think the ins seem largely consensus (Doc/Cripps/Motlop/Pitt) - with four changes already there - I don't think Boyd would come in too.

OUT: Dow
IN: Cripps

Pretty easy one here, but Dow has been great as a sub & Voss likes an inside mid as a sub so that seems pretty straight forward too.

OUT: Motlop
IN: Durdin

Durdin was fine on the weekend but think most agree with this.

OUT: Acres*/Hollands
IN: Doc

They've resisted playing Doc in the backline all year, so I can't see them doing it now. I expect Doc will play wing (not needed in the centre bounce but may well get a few attendances there too) - I'm hoping Acres gets up, so Hollands makes way.

OUT: Fog/Cuningham/Martin
IN: Pitt

Pitt has to come in for mine. Arguably Martin makes the most sense here so we aren't too tall, but I expect it may be Fog? It's a bit disappointing we probably have 23-25 players that should be playing this week. I can see why some want to jam Doc in for Fisher/Cincotta in defence, as we would get to keep all of Fog/Cuningham/Martin, but I don't think they will do that.

C: Doc Cerra Acres
HF: Owies McKay Martin
F: TDK CCurnow Motlop
Foll: Pitt Hewett Cripps
I/C: Fisher Walsh Cottrell Cuningham

SUB: Dow

E: Fog Hollands Durdin Marchbank

With Swans having quite a tall forward line - I can see the argument for Marchbank too. Still 10 days away so see what happens on the training track etc. I still like Fisher in the team but no doubt another just ok game & was moved around a lot in the second half.

GWS showed the way with their small forwards pushing deep into defence and launching the ball through the middle on turnover

We need to be ready for Paps and co to follow that

everyone (GWS) pushed deep into defence.

It was flooding 101 stuff.

I'm sure Vossy has seen enough to counter that if required....

Good post. I think Fog will stay in ahead of Fisher in the 22. I agree with you about Docherty playing wing/mid and Cottrell seems to be preferred wing/forward so this makes a decision about 7th defender interesting. Maybe why Boyd is still half a chance in my view.

Fisher/Dow/Cunners would all offer something different as sub if that's where it lands.

I wouldn’t - Martin has X factor & hardness we need.

Granted his game on the weekend was quiet.

We can’t afford to carry Fish if he can’t defend in finals.
Think those knocking Martin need to look at his opponent, Connor Idun is an elite defender and was tasked with Jack. He wore Martin like a glove and has all of the tools to quell the influence of a POD hybrid type.

Martin is made for September and won’t accept the tag so easily when the stakes are up.

Those criticising Jack Martin failed to consider the lack of intent that we played with for three quarters of that game. When we've played with intent over the last 2 months, he's almost always made an impact.

Instead of looking at his low impact game, I'll look at what he did make an impact on that 24 game. He's one of the few players that we have that I absolutely trust to deliver a defensive effort or two that can change a game. Even in a loss he managed to delivery hip and shoulder to a bloke bigger than him that put him on the turf and gave him something to think about for a moment or two afterwards. You absolutely need that in a final.

Martin's place in the Carlton team is safe as houses I don't think we turn around our season the way we have without him.

our delivery I50 was poor, slow and predictable.

The flooding meant no space....

Jack will relish the open spaces of the G.

Reckon he was instructed not to get out of first gear.
