A shame that it is only one ticket per membership. I remember when I went to the Richmond final (I know, 10 years ago) I could buy 5 additional tickets.

Spewing as I wanted to take my partner.

Suppose that’s the flow on of 95k members.
Imagine the next week if we meet Collingwood in the semi 🤷‍♂️

Fisher clear our for mine. He was great against the Saints, but has looked vulnerable the past 3 weeks under pressure. Not the sort you'd want to be carrying into the pressure cauldron that is September.

Unpopular opinion, but my biggest watch yesterday was Hewett vs Dow. As good as Hewett has been, his good games have coincidenced with Cerra out. Thought Hewett was quiet again now that Cerra has taken his role, and only had the one clearance for the game. With Cripps to come back in, the brave call might be to leave him out for Dow, who was excellent in the first half with his burst from stoppage and courage around the ground.

Durdin and Cunners are easy outs. Hollands saved by the likely Acres injury. Interesting to see what we do with the ruck. You'd think one of JSOS or Pitto has to come in.

Given a like for like replacement, Hewett replaced by Cripps and Dow stays in. Dow had most clearances on the ground last night and more pressure acts than any of our other mids.

Re Pittonet I'd keep it the same, Harry just needs to compete well, his efforts last night were deplorable. Token attempts to mark, loves to run under the ball.

Carlton Finals Hub thread has been set up

Use that thread for all finals ticketing questions etc so it doesn't get lost/missed in this thread

Will have to check out the replay but thought Hewett was one of our best on the day and has been for the last month

Newman was understandably pretty occupied with playing on Toby for parts on the weekend.

Back on the G next weekend i think he and Doc can put that extra layer of "mop up wall" in place again that they do so well to lock the ball in our half.

To me that will be the biggest key. 2 rucks feeding our bulls. Get it in. Lock it in our half for 55% of game.

Newy and Doc are important with that defensive push up. We've looked vulnerable defensively the last 2 weeks. I think we'll be back to our hardarse lock in game back at the G with everything on the line after a 2 game mini mental, physical break.

Either that and we'll win......or the season is catching up to us after a mammoth 12 week push and it will be a struggle keeping up with them.

But i think Crippa will lead us to a finals win. And i'll be rapt for him and Doc.

Think Pitto is a lock, same with Cripps, Doc, Mots. Big calls on Boyd and Kennedy

Players under pressure to hold their spot, Cincotta, Fisher, Cuners, Dow, Hollands, Durdin. Dow the likely sub, unless we want more versatility

Can't see Doc going back, at best will be used as a defensive mid
If it was a H+A game I'd have them both in no question. Much more difficult going into a final first up after a break from senior footy.

I realise that.
Just saying that in this day and age of big club membership numbers, that’s all it really can be.
I think even North have over 50k members …
Most of them animal memberships. Seems unfair counting individual fish eggs.

So I just applied the "* it principle" and booked bestie and I flights and 2 night's accommodation in Melbourne for the Elimination final. Better make sure I get us a footy ticket now.
78k last year Melb v Syd in Qualifying Final at the MCG on the Friday night. You'd think there would be at least another 10k with us involved.

My one concern is our defensive pressure across the ground has been sub par for 2 weeks. The contest winning ability of Cripps and Doc and pitto/jsos will help us maintain possession but we are turning the ball over at half fwd and the opposition half backs are killing us on the counter and our half backs are starting to break down. We need boyd, Kennedy and Silvagni to fix this, if fit.in addition to doc, cripps

In Cripps, Doc, Kennedy, Motlop, Jsos, boyd
Out Durdin, Fisher, Dow, marchbank, cunningham, cincotta/cunningham

In: Cripps, Docherty, Motlop, Pittonet
Out: Marchbank (Sub), C Durdin, Fisher, Fogarty

Newman Weitering** Kemp
Cincotta McGovern Saad*
Acres* Cripps Hollands
Cottrell McKay Martin
Motlop C Curnow Owies
Pittonet Hewett Cerra

Walsh De Koning Cuningham Docherty

Sub: Dow

  • If Acres doesn't come up, then Fisher stays in and plays the sweeping role across half back while Cottrell plays wing the whole game.
  • If Saad doesn't come up, then again it's Fisher who stays in and runs off half back. If both Acres and Saad don't come out, I'd bring in Boyd.
** If Weitering is suspended, I feel we need a solid tall defender back there. I'd bring in Sam Durdin to be the rock the others revolve around.

I realise people will think Fogarty is pretty unlucky to be out as we need his defensive pressure. He only had 1 tackle against the Giants, but I've also dropped Durdin who had 6 tackles. Reasoning is that Motlop is more dynamic and McKay was ineffective as a second ruck. I don't like the idea of having McKay, TDK and Pittonet in the same side but we need more than just a resting second ruck as our second tall forward. I'd honestly bring in JSOS for Harry if he was available. Anyway, somebody has to make way for the extra ruck and I'd rather lose the more dour Fogarty than the promise of what Cuningham can do in a more intense side.

Footnote: It's really hard to select a side based on the Giants game as we were only going at half intensity.
Respect what you're angling for structurally, but too much faith in Pittonet, Fisher, and S.Durdin.

Trust that we can solve the ruck issue in a way that doesn't destroy TDK's impact and drain our pressure, that Young is still the better tall to bring in, and that Fisher needs the perfect defensive matchup to stay in.

Do Sydney have someone in their forward line that lacks elite speed and offers zero aerial threat?
They play a very different game to Acres though. Acres is more of a line-breaking, pack-crashing, strong tackling winger capable of contested marks with elite running as a bonus - Crisp like. I also think we’ve got no one to truly cover him.

As an aside, Hollands may be saved by Acres’ injury, but too physically weak for finals footy imo. Not doubting his heart. Fish in similar boat.

Pity we’ve had to make so many changes to the team over last few weeks. Bit unsettling.
I think he's gained just enough strength through the season to cope, however timing his defensive efforts will be critical to keeping his impact high.
I'd rather see Pitto given that chance than Harry potentially hurting that knee again.
I'd rather see a system where TDK takes almost all of the centre bounces and we focus on preventing the high leap that creates knee issues.

Pittonet was costing us efficiency in open play, and it wore down our runners and talls. He lifted his intensity in an effort to counteract that, but still sub-70% game time on the regular and just not enough impact.
Keen to stick with Fish for at least one more. Form prior to last night has been excellent and he brings a more dynamic aspect to that role than Boyd does. Recency bias perhaps but reckon Fish has more upside in that role than Boys does. He did play flat last night but so did the majority of the team.
Boyd looked to be offering serious rebound in his first VFL game back, but just vanished in the GC game.

If the form first up is still there, he's a good chance to replace Fisher. Right now I'd rather have Doc, Hollands, and Walsh involved rather than playing another defender.
