Pathetic, complete draft tampering in favor of Victorian clubs and it won’t change.

Not just Victorian clubs. There were a few West Australians who also did it a few years ago. It is ultimately going to become so widespread that the Northern clubs are going to be so hamstrung by draft time. I know of one Swans player who actively sold his eagerness to move interstate at draft time, but such players are few and far between, and will only become more so, making the draft a landmine for the Northern clubs.

West coast should definitely select him.

The only thing that will stop the draft tampering is longer contracts for draftees.

In the NBA, an early draft pick, who is any good, is basically under the control of the team that drafts them for the first 9 years of their career.

It doesn't need to be like that for the AFL, but if you take a player in the first round then you have to know you have that player for at least 4 years.

Tie contract length, salary and draft "bonus" directly to the point taken. Do it in 5's, tens, first ten, second ten and so on. Rounds are not that relevant any more.
Example:
First 5 5 years 25k bonus X salary
Second 5 4 years 18k bonus 90%X
Second 10 4 years 14k bonus 85%X
Third 10 3 years 11k bonus 80%X
and so on.
Use a common incentive base as well.

AFLPA wouldn't allow it

I think they are doing the eba at the moment. Something needs to be done.

The problem is the system has been so wrong for so long, it is now really hard to fix. Because any change to make it fairer, has to come with someone being paid off.

Bobby was extraordinary. I think one of the reasons he loved playing interstate games so much was he under much less pressure and could showcase his skills.

I was at an interstate game and with the game won in the 4th Q, the following occurred.

Skilts won possession just back of centre and stab passed the ball about 30 odd metres to hit John Sharrock on the chest. Skilts kept sprinting, got the hand ball receive and delivered another tracer bullet stab pass to the chest of the CHF. Nice play eh. But consider the first kick was on his left and the second on his right.

Such a joy remembering even that tiny snippet.

Max Gawn's goal last week wasn't even nominated for Goal of the Year.

Everyone in the AFL bemoans the death of the drop punt goal, maybe if they showed some appreciation for the absolute ripper drop punt goals that do happen, players might be more inclined to practice them to death.

That would've gone out on the full in his junior days , amazing career from where he started with an ACL in 19s , what a star on and off , never forgets where he came from

Daicos is like a gaming character at this stage. He's so good he has an aura that automatically makes his team-mates better as well.

Gone past Buddy and Ablett in their prime with the weekly articles on him.

Meanwhile coaches refuse to clamp down on him except Longmire.

oh yeah, can you imagine the outcry in victoria if a swans academy player declared he wasn't leaving sydney ... no idea if it's even possible under whatever rules, it surely would breach some rule or other ... but if a high-ranking nsw kid tried it ...???
I hope we do get that situation just to force the AFLs hand.

Just saw the Will Ashcroft knee injury from tonight's game (Bris v Geel).
Totally innocuous incident with his knee seemingly just collapsing under him.

Hate to see that sort of vision as it seems more often than not to result in an ACL injury.

First year, everything going well, played every game and Brisbane seemingly assured of a double chance and then......

Seems a grounded individual, no carry on, just a guy who happens to be a bloody good footy player.
Can but wish him the best.
