Do you have a link to the article? I can't find anything on Google or the AFL website. Not doubting you, just trying to find the article you referenced.
From the article below:

"For instance, it would have allowed Adelaide to list one of Rory Sloane or Taylor Walker as a veteran for 2024 and opened up another spot on their primary list. The idea was designed to keep veterans in the game without sacrificing a list spot that a youngster may have taken, with the veteran’s full payments still counted in the salary cap."

There's a link in the post above

Time to get back on topic :)

Could we gamble on putting Schoenberg on the LTI ..to free up a list spot

I know he's likely to come back late season, but is it worth it ?
No, for several reasons:
  • Firstly, the LTI list is now only useful for promoting Cat B rookies mid-season, allowing them to be selected for AFL games. We don't have any Cat B rookies in 2024, so there's not a lot of point.
  • Secondly, even if we were able to place him on the Inactive List (as distinct from the LTI list), we would only be able to replace him via the PSSP or MSD. Putting a player on the Inactive List does not create a list vacancy which can be filled via the ND.
  • Thirdly, you can't put players on the Inactive List until after the ND/PSD/RD.
  • Fourthly, given that he has a predicted return date before the end of the 2024 season, we wouldn't be allowed to put him on the Inactive List anyway.

But apart from that, it's a good idea yeah?

One on one, Butts is poor .....my beef though is he's a reactive defender .....struggles to read the play formulating in front of him, thus reacts to his opponent's actions, giving his opponent that split second advantage

Take May & Lever .....both read the play better than their opponents ....they're not as focussed on their opponent, but where the ball is going
Lever was terrible one on one for the first 6 years of his career.. its only been in the last 2-3 years his one on one defending has come good..

He was a floating interceptor at adelaide who, as this was before 666 came in, never even had an opponent to worry about. He merrily ran around in our defense like an unregistered dog.

It was the best thing about that trade of Jake to the Dees.. seeing the Dees try him as a 1v1 defender and the dees supporters writing him off in those first couple of year as being Shite at it.. they hated him for a while there.

Butts now is a better 1v1 defender than lever ever was at the same age..

I think he's got a giant hill to climb. Keane went past him, and will also get a preseason.
Butts will start in 22, but probably only because Murray is injured.

When Murray is back, the choice will be between Butts and Keane.
And given our attempts to get Petty and Cox, I suspect the club and I expect Keane to be the one to stay in.
Keane hasn't gone past Butts yet. He only came into the side when Butts was injured.

Murray is clearly our best key defender.

Worrell is a given but can play either as a 2nd or 3rd tall depending on the opposition.

With Murray out, it will give Burgess & Keane opportunities to fight it out with Butts.

Keane showed more in a few games than Butts had in years.

Any one hear Mark Bickley say on sen this morning that we still have 3 picks

Wasn’t happy with me challenging him. And quoting big footy bloggers that we only had 2. Said he had a call into club but didn’t give any further update

Won’t quote his logic but it was unfounded or simply wrong
