no it wasn't, you flat out got it wrong. Your comment on giving up a draft pick was solely related to acquiring Himmelberg. It's even a different paragraph to anything about NWM. Just own up to your mistakes.
Never !! :)

With Hawthorn possibly about to be stripped of draft selections, could he be the 'Bernie Vince' sacrifice for a draft pick?

Obviously not ideal to lose a young promising player, but if he's already out the door, he gives them potential to get into the first round.

Just on that, I'd love to see them actually lose their first round selection (racism investigation) after they have deliberately tried to tank.

hawks aren't being stripped of draft selections.

I swear to god, it isn't that hard, we should have seats in the coaches box.

Burns " lets run Milera off half back"

Nicks "good idea, Scotty"

Spenze and GK ( dealing out double slaps) "leave it to the professionals' boys...in fact the eski is getting low, Nicksy get us some brews and make yourself useful"

Nix would come back with Great Northern cans, wouldn't let him anywhere near a beer run.

Yep and when he did that he trailed his opponent and they kicked goals. He was good in an attacking mode but poor at defending.

On the wing he doesn’t have to defend and his delivery to our forwards would be handy.

We used a first rounder on Milera to be a mid, not take the easy option and play half back.

In all fairness, Brodie Smith has never been any good at defending either. If Milera can transition into that role as Smith winds down I don't think it's the worst result.

I think Smiths defending is underrated, he’s not that bad and I can’t recall him being yards behind his opponent like Milera used to. He gave his opponent too much room and when they got in front and led he was no where near them to put any pressure on.

Now he may well have improved and it’s worth a go to at least get him back to playing decent afl football. But if he’s gets his mojo back, I think he has all the tools to be a very effective wing if Nicks valued what traditional wings can do.

Yeah he definitely looked terrible defensively when he was back there. Would like to know what his instructions were from coaches on accountability vs creativity.

how are our wing roles well covered? We had Hately and Crouch playing wing at times last season. Effective wings is a massive weakness.
Our gameplan doesn't allow for the effective use of outside players. Even Whitfield would struggle in our side.

I cringed a bit when I heard VB banging on about the contest. Sounds like the Sando days all over again, minus the AA quality mids we used to have.

Was thinking about this a bit more and i reckon Millera should be given a shot there
Hinge , Rankine , Dawson , Jones , Soligo ( occasionally ) will be the wingers at times IMO

Wayne will be half back as we need more drive and bounce out of defence …. Hopefully he can hit some decent form . It’s about the only spot he’s nailed in the past ( even if only for one season )

I’m not convinced that Nicks is sure what he wants from his wings

Of course they won't, it is why we've won about 30% of our games, because we are so stacked for options. Milera is a poor defender and it affects his game, if he has his fitness is back, have him use his speed to transition the football from defense to the F50 and to put pressure on defenders sitting off their opponents.

What you are suggesting is typical Nicks, backfill a position and hope it works. Then put a player in a position he succeeded at for a few months whilst he was lose in defence but has been really poor once he was manned up. Unsure why you would think we should go Jones over Milera in that position or are we just seeing how many positions Jones can fail at?

I'd like to see Dawson, Milera, Sholl and Cook as our wings

Wayne’s best footy of his career has been half back , it’s the only position he’s settled into when he was there

Most clubs have an offensive ball user that isn’t the best defender eg Saad , Hynd , Cumming , Daicos … the list goes on

Our defence lacks offence , most of the guys are pretty ok with shut downs roles eg butts murray Parnell Jones last year did ok but didn’t provide much drive , it’s part of reason why we keep putting Dawson back ( to get the ball moving out of there better )

Milera + Smith is worth trying

As for Jones he’s not in my round 1 team , I reckon he will be sub and likely play wing or small defence if he comes on

My starting wings would be Hinge and Dawson with Rankine and occasionally Soligo to rotate thru there

What makes you think that Wayne’s lack of defence is any less an issue on the wing than defence by the way ? Guys like Sidebottom , Langdon , J Daicos , Gulden , Mccluggage can chop you up if you don’t defend as much as a half forward which normally plays high anyway

I doubt it has anything to do with 'wants'. It's just a low-priority position that ends up reflecting the state of a teams outside group. When it's in dire straits, it's ditched to try to maximise elsewhere. When there are multiple options playing well, there tend to be proper wingers present.

With Seedsman wiped out and Smith declining, ours is in dire straits.

Not sure why it would be low priority
