Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

I actually thought Brockman was good from limited opportunity, I mean, they were flogged and it hardly went forward but when they did, he was involved in a fair few of their scoring opportunities including the boundary one he fluffed. If it was a late 3rd round pick or Brockman, I'd definitely rather Brockman
Yes for a third round pick or later he would be worth adding. He is quicker than I thought but doesn’t seem to have major impact on games so prob isn’t much of a priority. Like Sharp wasn’t a priority for Freo last trade period. I wouldn’t be too worried if Sharp came or didn’t. I’d trade Brockman for 3rd and Sharp for nothing more than 4th round pick.

We really could of used sharp this year, but not for a 2nd round pick

I always find these things hard to gauge (if I haven't seen them play) because they talk about all their best traits and you are expecting it to say top 5, then it says late-rookie. They need to balance these by explaining why the areas to work on limit them, to give it more context.

STRENGTHS:

  • X-Factor
  • Explosiveness
  • Speed
  • Tackling
  • Kicking
  • Impact

I imagine that is basically the same as Rachelle's profile. Certainly makes him sound good.

Am I correct in saying Matt Johnson is now ineligible to be nominated for the Rising Star award?

He can be nominated, he can't win it. If he plays four more games this year he will be eligible next season to win it.

Given what we have seen from him I think a rising star is no big deal on the way to greater things.

So with Carlton’s salary squeeze, how bout we tighten it a bit more

Throw Walters salary at Motlop

*I’m not pushing for Walters to retire, but the end is close

Yep. Made his debut this year.
I think it’s due to his suspension. Doesn’t matter that he debuted this year. It’s like the B&F in the Brownlow.

It’s not very clear but I’m not 100% he can even be nominated now. Not sure if there’s any previous examples of a player that was suspended earlier in the season getting a RS nom later in the same year? One for the Swamp thing on Twitter to answer I reckon.

Of course. Gotcha.

That's what I expect will happen. I highly doubt Walters will still be good enough in 2 years and we can easily fit both Motlop and Brockman into our side.

He can be nominated, but I'm not sure players have been nominated after a suspension due to the 180 odd players eligible for nomination each week and having one less to consider is making it easier to pick one. Johnson might need a 40 touch, 5 goal game for it.

As an aside, if you're upset that Amiss can play a superior game and not get picked - you need for Kevin Sheehan, Buckley, Jude Bolton, Kane Cornes and Abbey Holmes to be watching.

... they would all have been watching GWS/Dogs game.

Pretty sure you've actually got to play more than ten games to be ineligible for the rising star. If he plays exactly ten he's still eligible.

The only big signing I can foresee as likely is a winger. Probably a FA.

We're going to have to rely on B graders or luck for Amiss's partner as there is just no way we can generate the trade capital required to trade in a star forward. (I'm placing the chance a young WA star forward wants to come home in 2024 or 5 in the luck category).

I think acquiring an elite goalkicker of any size would also be useful but not absolutely essential. People will be surprised how many your Shultzs and Fredricks of the world will kick once the team is really up and running.

From a sales point of view, with footy players being human, it would be better for our long term recruiting if our form over the back half/third of the season, irrespective of where we actually finish, is really strong. Helps sell the narrative they are being offered the chance to join a dynasty.

Who is he related to?

And is this Brockman talk legit'. Why would the Hawks want to offload a young player?

He's Greg Broughton's nephew.

The Hawks won't want to lose him, so its all speculation and wishful thinking. Hopefully he wants to come home and nominates his Uncles old club.

It still erks me that we didn't do enough to draft or trade Bolton for he was a father/son (not under the AFL's interpretation or rules of course).

I didn't really rate motlop last season but he has been awsome this year. He wins 1 on 1s you wouldn't expect from a small. Wpuld love to bring him in.

Oh, I had no idea. So why just 2 games with the Dockers?

Dunno, probably just a fringe player. I don't remember him either, just reading the Wikipedia page. Looked up the games he played and I remember every single other player on the field. B&F at Peel in 1998, then rookie drafted to Freo in 1999, played 2 senior games in Rd 3/4 and then the rest of the year at South, then delisted end of 1999 and went back to Peel.
