Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

That's not how triggers work, we don't have an option to not action it

If he hits the trigger then he extends automatically

Was mainly suggesting he’s a free agent until he’s extended and not many players get traded the same year they’re extended.

Given the contract trigger there’s pretty much zero chance he isn’t at the club next year.

Any trade that’s within the realms of possibility wouldn’t be worth trading him anyway. He’s no prime Eddie Betts but he’s a very good small forward who I can say with confidence would get a game for every team in the competition.

To be fair, if he wanted to go we would trade him, we have history of it and it's likely better off doing it this year rather than letting him walk next year

I don't think he wants to go though, if our club fails next year then we may have a problem

I'm finding it hilarious watching him play forward at North.
Logue: G'day Clarko just wanted to tell you how happy I've been getting to play back in defence this season, really feel like I'm coming back into my....

Clarko: I'm gonna have to stop ya there Griff, you know that part about how I was going to let you play in defence this year?........yeah......I lied.

I know ill flip flop on this as we play and the year goes on but clearly, Jackson is going to be worth comfortably more than everyone we lost by the time things are done. I think the key is in the long run, the Acres and Lobbs of the world are best 22 players in just about every team but stop the Treacy, Johnson and Erasmus’s of the world getting games.

We clearly rated Johnson and Erasmus in particular very highly and we were happy to push out Acres to get games into them.

Logue was always too expensive to keep as borderline best 22

I’ve been having a few beers and haven’t been on here all day.
Just jumped on now and all I see talk of trading Lachie Schultz for pick one. Am i going crazy?

Yes, yes you are. Schultz is worth two top 3 picks + change and to even question it shows how detached from reality you are.

I am genuinely confused as to how the Dees made Jackson look so useless as a forward, especially when they had him play ok everywhere else. He's not and probably never will be a JJK level forward but I'll be staggered if he is not better than Lobb as a pure forward and soon.

I was wrong!

He’s already kicked more goals than he did all of last year and is only 4 away from his 2021 season.

I think they may have had Gawn spend more time forward instead but even then LJ looks much more competent up fwd here

The talk is more about whether you would lock Schultz in now for the rest of his career or let him go to a bigger contract elsewhere if the trade could be arranged given he will be under contract.
Thinking a bit more clearly this morning.
Isnt Schultz a UFA? We can’t trade him even if we wanted to.
FWIW, no first round pick will be involved in a Lachie Schultz trade. Hawthorn will be bottom 3 next year, they are not giving us that pick for an honest battler small forward.

On the open market, I reckon Lachie is worth about pick 24.
I’d rather keep him TBH

Melbourne played Jackson as the tall who lead to the pocket to bring the ball to ground for a forward fifty stoppage. Their midfielders kicked long to the behind post and Jackson's role was to keep the ball inside fifty.

We let him go for marks and mismatch him in the middle.

Got to remember and understand that Jackson was in a different stage of his development for most of his time at the Dee's.

He is an unrestricted free agent if he is out of contract, which he isn't.

What with this and Crowden it's just as well you've got the Hogan feather in your cap! 🤣

The individual decisions I agree with but the sum total resulted in a massive dent in our campaign for this year. Something we seemed totally unprepared for.

The club could easily have retained Acres and Logue at a reasonable cost. The gains from those losses are minimal. But our defense and wings have taken significant backwards steps.

The replacement of Lobb with Jackson is something we will benefit from for a decade. It's massive. The cost high, but worth the risk.

Apart from two games a year where Logue locked down Curnow and Cameron, how did our defence take a backwards step from the team losing a pressure forward?
He brought the ball to ground in the forward line a lot, which we did need, but our young tall forwards are all doing a better job of making the forward line work so 🤷‍♂️
