Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Where did you hear that? I think he was listed as a free agent due to the contract he signed last ttime and we get draft compensation for him if we don't match.
Schultz is an unrestricted free agent because he has been delisted. So if he leaves there is no compensation.

The other club just need to negotiate terms with Schultz's agent. Potentially (although highly unlikely) the first time we know about it is when the paperwork is lodged at AFL House.

Schultz is contracted for another year. So we get compensation if he leaves this year.

Unrestricted free agents still qualify for compensation, but most of them are unrestricted because their old or not very good, so they don't get a contract good enough to qualify for compensation. I can't think of a case like Schultz's but Liam Jones was an unrestricted free agent last year and Carlton got a third round pick for him even though he was 31.

That was a different case, the AFL essentially pushed him out of the league with an introduced condition after he had signed the contract with Carlton - so Carlton rightly felt they were still able to claim his contract on their books for the purpose of him moving as a free agent.

Similar to the Mal Michael rule which was introduced after Mal Michael retired at Brisbane with his contracted term not yet fully served, the contract with Brisbane was terminated due to the retirement and then he was picked up by Essendon.

Now clubs retain the right to the player's contract for the term of their signed contract, even if they walk away from the game.

Looks like we've picked our three talls ahead of the ball for at least the next three seasons.

Amiss and Jackson contracted for the rest of their careers and Treacy until deep into whether we will know he is an AFL player or not.

And now we will benefit from that development, which I'm greatly excited to see over the next few years.

Treacy locked in for three more years.

That answers one question.

That's a solid deal! It probably suggests the likelihood of landing another KPF is minimal. Hopefully that won't matter and cyclone continues to improve his craft.

Yes!!!! That's a huge relief. Well done Freo.

I love it when a plan comes together.

If opposition teams aren’t worried they oughta be!

Brodie pushed himself out the side, the opportunity was there, JOM didnt start the season well and we opted for Fyfe to go forward. Brodie was poor
No it wasn’t.
Brodie had a sluggish start, exactly the same as the whole midfield.

However JOM got a pass because he
hasn’t been with the club. He was in poor form for a whole month.

Brodie is still good enough. He has to push on knowing JOM Is already 29

The list of players on the main list (not rookie) is very low now and it would be very close to curtains for:
Sturt
Henry
Wilson
Hamling
Colyer

Unless someone on contract, beyond this year, decides to go again or someone like Sturt may agree to go on the rookie list.

We will be taking 4 in the main draw, so apart from perhaps Henry surely it’s all over for the others!

Is there any rookies that have to go onto the main list this year?

Perhaps Benning (certain), Reidy and Williams to depart rookie list?

Other thoughts?

I’m hoping Brodie gets a chance again now that Fyfe is out, even if it’s only 1 1/2 quarters per game coming on as the sub to start with.

Didn’t we draft Benning on the main list due to interest from Essendon?

That helps, if correct, in keeping one of Henry or Sturt.

Still it is going to be the smallest turnover of players for a number of years unless there are post season surprises.
