Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Absolutely forgot about last season's draftees 🤣

Davies looks like a Ryan replacement down the line as that 3rd Tall intercepting, decent size on him too. Draper with that athleticism could be a real problem too.

Davies has close to 10cm on Ryan. He’s been drafted as a genuine KPD but needs time in the gym.

If anything Draper is the third tall defender rather than Davies.

He hit a trigger on games played so under contract for 2024. So he will need to be traded. That is at least my understanding. When out of contract he is a free agent.

I agree with others that a quality small forward should be looked at with one of our draft picks.

Just thinking about back up KPD should Hamling as expected not get a contract. I quite like Jacob Blight from Peel. strong and solid boy - quite young as well. Is more attacking than Hamling but good one on one defender. Could be added via rookie draft. Between he and Chapman provide cover for Cox/Pearce whilst allowing Draper and Davies time to develop. Also Chapman having versatility to play other roles.

Understand the trigger but he’d get us a compensation pick if he was a free agent. 100% sure on that.

Also - I don’t mind Blight but we should be searching the whole country for the best mature aged KPD at whatever that selection turns out to be. It wouldn’t be an early one imo.

And hard run. Our mids and hff don't run hard enough and our hbf don't run off.

HBF's been hampered with Chapman out. Young's forced to play taller and Clark(e)'s being focused as a result. Doesn't help also that Switta's down on form and both NOD and Freddy have been dealing with injuries too.

Henry's emergence as a hard running winger has came at a great time for next season.

Sturt showed some decent clinical goalkicking today and good leading patterns.
Needs to play every game now till end of the season and see what he’s capable of. He’s never had a genuine run in the side

We desperately need a forward that isn’t a tall and isn’t a small and isn’t Bailey Banfield. Thought Sturt did alright today tbh.

Biggest problem with Sturt for me is he gets 7-10 disposals a game and isn’t much of an impact other than the goals he kicks. If he’s not kicking 3-4 goals, he’s got to make a bigger contribution with the ball elsewhere. That’s where Banfield has Sturt covered even today (except the two goals probably still puts it in Sturt’s favour).

Height isn't everything but if you've got it then it definitely helps. Wasn't Davies's skill set best as an interceptor? Regardless he's got some great tutelage at Freo.

Jury's still out on what Draper's best role is. Wouldn't hate seeing him replace Chapman as he moves to the midfield

After watching today Ash Johnson(Pies) would be a very good forward option.. high marking goal square option who can kick straight contrasting with clever leading Amiss would add forward potency

The team as a whole haven’t regressed as much as the individuals have.
Schulz, Switkowski, NOD, Clark, Pearce, Cox have all had poor years. Hurts when it’s the experienced players being dragged by the youth

I actually think Clark has had a solid year. He’s had some good games and has actually been pretty consistent.

The backline as a whole haven’t been as dominant this year and maybes that’s a knock on from the midfield struggles

Would love him. Reminds me of Shane Yarran. His contract ends this year and he’s Eric Bennings’s brother

His stats are pretty much what Sturt delivers. Maybe a few more goals than Sturt, but he is in a better team.

He is taller and jumps higher so a bit more of an aerial threat, but the reality is the main difference is Macrae actually gives him continuity and doesn't expect him to get more than 10 touches and a few goals every now and then.

Hasn’t he been dropped multiple times this season and is only playing because Mihocek isn’t?

8 years into a rebuild, still bottom 4, s**t midfield, no outside class, one good forward.

Peak freo
You do realise it’s because our rebuild was split into two parts? Essentially restarted again in 2019. I don’t think there’s anyone good left at the club that we brought in (not through the draft) from the start of our ‘rebuild’ in 2016. That 2018 off season ****ed us up hugely. We could’ve had King, and one of the port mids. Instead we decided to try and fast track the failed rebuild by bringing in mature forwards for more than they were worth.

It’s not 8 years into a rebuild. We made finals last year. We’ve rebuilt our list now. The same list is capable of playing good football, we literally saw that earlier in the year where we were winning and scoring 100+ in all our wins. We’ve got a young list that should improve with more pre seasons under their belt. We’re not an ageing team that only has one or two seasons left in them.

He missed the first 2 and played every game since except 1. But I doubt he keeps his spot when Mihocek comes back. My point is more that despite not touching it much, Macrae has kept him in the side to maintain team balance. Just like we should with Sturt.

If JL was coaching Collingwood, he would play two small forwards out of Ginnivan, Bianco and Harrison instead of Johnson and McCreery.

I know we brought in lobb, Hogan, aish, Wilson, matera , hamling, kersten plus a few others during the rebuild.

Agree, Hogan and lobb instead of king and rozee was a massive mistake.

Last year was the blip, so many of our players over performed.

Our forward line is average and our game plan has been worked out.

But the point is we’re not 8 years into a rebuild. We have a young list that can perform at their best. The list has been rebuilt. That doesn’t mean we don’t need to top up in some areas, but every team needs to do that anyway.

We are not 8 years into a rebuild. We are a rebuilt team who are inexperienced and inconsistent throughout games and throughout the year.

Agree to disagree.

No outside mids, 1 good forward. No first round pick.

We are atheist 3 very good players from being top 4

That's a list mgt issue. Who has been in charge of list mgt?
