Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Midfield struggles = Joel Corey

It’s clearly not working with him in there. I won’t be upset if we keep JL, but I will be if Joel Corey stays on.

He missed the first 2 and played every game since except 1. But I doubt he keeps his spot when Mihocek comes back. My point is more that despite not touching it much, Macrae has kept him in the side to maintain team balance. Just like we should with Sturt.

If JL was coaching Collingwood, he would play two small forwards out of Ginnivan, Bianco and Harrison instead of Johnson and McCreery.

Not sure this is true. Johnson tends to play deepest forward doesn't he? Effectively our Amiss.

They tend to run similar balance as we do (on paper). 3 talls, 4 smalls. Their "smalls" are bigger bodies, Elliott is a gun overhead for a small, but a stretch to say JLo would be going smaller given its well smaller than we're currently playing?

I think we could sell the idea of a top five pick from our future first but I also expect we can make finals next season, especially since we will only play a single top six side twice from this year.

Based on today, what's the view of Hamling and Wagner for next year. Thought Wagner was much improved

if you go back and watch some of Wagner’s earlier games there was actually a lot to like. Yes he was defensively a bit shite, and he made some errors but there were a lot of nice kicks on the 45 that opened up play and also some runs with pace…thought he was harshly dealt with tbh

Didn’t mind him today. He’s far from our biggest problem and will replace Walker nicely for rest of season

You cannot predict what each of these teams are going to be like next year come on. We were 5th last year and are now 15th. Collingwood went from 17th to 4th. For all you know we have some unexpected jump and finish top 2 next year.

I dream about having an unexpected jump like Collingwood last year but this footy club is cursed mate, we aren't destined to ever have a season like that.

You're thinking the wrong way, we should rise up the ladder next year


We should use the allure of a top 5 pick next year to buy a top 10 this year, then rebound to finals

That's what I thought. Gold coast need so much points as 3 of their academy prospects could be top 20 and one of them top2. Our pick 22 one in 30s and 2 in 40s could play as well.

I would only do it if there is a clear talent available to us. We would need to spend it on a forward and all the top projected small/medium forwards are risky picks.

Trade has to be done before the draft due to gc list problems so it won't be a targetted player

You are a decent poster on here mate, but OMG that trade is hideous from out POV.
Using this years ladder (the best indicator we have) - we are giving GC pick 4 & 20 for pick 10 or so this season?
That’s crazy shit. Especially as pick 10 will be at least out to 13 or 14 on draft night.

I think Joao & Snuffaluphagus might need to close monitoring for anger management issues if we did that trade.

Unless a Rankine level talent nominates to join us in trade which isn’t happening.
