Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

You are a decent poster on here mate, but OMG that trade is hideous from out POV.
Using this years ladder (the best indicator we have) - we are giving GC pick 4 & 20 for pick 10 or so this season?
That’s crazy s**t. Especially as pick 10 will be at least out to 13 or 14 on draft night.

I think Joao & Snuffaluphagus might need to close monitoring for anger management issues if we did that trade.

The future 1st is OFF. THE. TABLE.
Unless a Rankine level talent nominates to join us in trade which isn’t happening.
Gc will be like pick 5 to 8

You have to pay overs to buy back into the draft, I literally posted an example before of the demons who finished 16th and paid to get pick 8

You pay overs to buy into a draft, this is pretty commonly known...

We should not do that and I don’t expect we will. It’s crazy risk for what? An unknown quantity? At least last year we got LJ who was a proven gun

Or it's a shrewd move if we bolt back into finals next year and end up with pick 6 (and a year of development) for pick 14 and 22

I'm backing us in to do that, especially if we get the bottom 6 draw (looking likely)

if you go back and watch some of Wagner’s earlier games there was actually a lot to like. Yes he was defensively a bit shite, and he made some errors but there were a lot of nice kicks on the 45 that opened up play and also some runs with pace…thought he was harshly dealt with tbh
Showed some good composure today.

Is there any way we can get a late 1st rounder by giving north's second and by using just this years picks? Tholstrup is not in top 20 in innersanctrum ranking . And after top3 or 4 not a real stand out.. so may be we keep next year 1st and try a late first this year?

This is my line of thinking and I would say it is possible. West coast somehow climbing above north would help us move up a spot too.
When you talk about late first and early seconds, the number of the pick doesn’t really matter. It’s the player you want to get hold of, and whether the pick you have can get you in that range?

We have a decent defense. Our midfield is the biggest weakness. We need at least 2-3 big bodied bulls and 2 small forwards that can pick off the likes of amiss, treacy,Jackson in the future. Walters is just about done. This can fix most of the issues. We are out bodied in the hitouts to the likes of brayshaw and serong. When it goes forward we don’t have good enough smalls to pick off what comes to ground from our talls. Walters just plays for free kicks now and offers nothing. Shultz has his moments but doesn’t have the speed. Switkowski is better up the ground tackle machine but doesn’t hit the scoreboard.

That would be a juicy get

Maybe our F1 and pick 22 for it, I'd do that

Our F1 projects as a top 10 but we obvs try to make it finals, 22 gives them points for this year still

Then maybe work out something with out remaining picks 38, 44, 58, where we basically smuggle some picks in through list spots for them (Banfield Treacy) to trade to them on the night and get a higher pick (this all relies on gc not having the list spots to carry points for their academy players)
Gold Coast need picks for this coming draft. We can achieve this without giving up F1.

We would need to be shrewd with our trading. We could for example seek out a club that is looking for 2024 picks.

For eg.
38-39 (North 2nd) & F2 > 23, 51
51, 45-47 (Carlton 3rd) > 37

22, 23, 37 > 6 and another pick or two in the late 40’s/early 50’s that they need to offload.

We end up with something like:
6, 49, 58 (and keep our F1)

GC will end up with around 300 extra pts which they need. Just an example with regards to numbers because I have no idea where clubs will end and what picks each club will have.

But the point is we’re not 8 years into a rebuild. We have a young list that can perform at their best. The list has been rebuilt. That doesn’t mean we don’t need to top up in some areas, but every team needs to do that anyway.

We are not 8 years into a rebuild. We are a rebuilt team who are inexperienced and inconsistent throughout games and throughout the year.
I am not sure how can you say the list has been rebuilt when we are 15th.

yes we have a young list, but the quality is lacking.

With a new coach I'd be shocked if we're bottom 5 in 2024 though. I just don't see our list as being that bad.
There won’t be a change a coach for 2024. There will more likely be some changes to the support staff. Given the squad has gotten younger he will be given 2024 to turn it around. Finals or bust though for JL in 2024.

I think the fact we can't even agree the reason we suck, shows how far we are off it.

I think we need 1 or 2 outside line breaking mids (ideally who can play forward for bits of the game), plus 2 good small or medium forwards. (ideally players who can take a mark) plus a new KPF or at least someone to pressure on Treacy (Happy to look at the best vfl, wafl player if they show they will run all day and compete)

We can trade our future first if we want to.

Acres and Logue were players that could have been contracted earlier.
We could lose one but two was always going to bite.
Is it the player’s fault? Bad management, accounting that’s on the club.
The worst part is that we are still doing excessive or longer than need to be
contracts.
Where is the war chest, coin to fix holes in the list? It’s bad enough we don’t
have a first rounder but what If there was a player available for Free Agency?
We don’t have Father Sons like other clubs, so F/A could be the difference.
It’s ironic that we have so many Ex-Bulldogs here, they were going nowhere
until Beverage was hired from 2015.
After 2014 the Bullies lost their captain, then coach, but gained Boyd from GWS.
Even if we got lucky, our club reads more like a horror story.

Why don't you think we have the money to attract a free agent but had the money to attempt to lure a big key forward earning more than anyone on our list currently?
If you are talking about Jackson the jury is still out on him being a big key forward?
We overpaid for him whether in money or picks, we bought on potential.
Freo the gift that keeps giving, Dees love May, Langdon and now pick 4 or 5.
Fyfe, Walters getting two years, it goes on and on. JOM four years.
Jackson wanted home, so I doubt we lured him.
You know exactly what I’m talking about, the length of contracts, pricing it’s
Buy high sell low.
We gambled with our first pick and lost.
Tigers, Cats, Dees, is the blueprint, there is a reason why we are forever
rebuilding.

Because i don't think our list is the reason we're 15th. It's a combination of coaching (particularly in the midfield), and players getting inside their own heads.

The same list that lost to Carlton at home beat Melbourne at the MCG a few weeks earlier. It's not a list issues, its a consistency, mindset, and coaching issue.

No I'm talking about targetting a opposition player end of this year.

Someone else will offer an F1, effectively trumping that offer

GC don't have the list spots to carry multiple picks like that imo

I think our forward line is bottom 4 in the comp.
Our midfield can't break lines. We are at least 4 players short of top 4. I don't see many people on the list who can fill these holes. Keuk and Stanley maybe, but that is a stretch.
