Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Elliot Yeo to Fremantle is more than just scuttle butt and is more than a strong chance of happening. All 3 parties are very open to the idea.

The question is, is this right move by Fremantle to bring in an injury riddled 29 year old and what is his worth?

What do you expect of a forward line relying on a 19yo, 20yo and 21yo as the key targets. We really miss 1 or 2 26-27yo key targets to help bring them along so until we get a decent amount of games into them we are going to be poor.
I personally don't think the talent is there regardless of age. Who other than Amiss will be an A grader?

This gives me Ballantyne to Eagles vibes.

Be stunned if it happened.

He's gun if fit but I reckon he's played less games than Fyfe in the last 3 years. Pass.

That's a no from me. Way too injury prone, would only consider it if they were giving him away from nothing.

Last thing we need is another perpetually injured 30 year old on our list

If he's free, I'll back Merriman to get him on the field. Our soft tissue record the last two years is fantastic and he'd make such a difference in our midfield
Doubt he's free. We'll have to cough up something of note either salary or picks.

It's a disaster waiting to happen. Can just imagine playing a half fit Yeo, half fit Fyfe and JoM "I only turn up 2 games per month" and wondering why we're still getting slaughtered in the middle despite all that experience.

I'd think to get off his salary with his injury history he'd have to be free for us to do it, there's benefit in WC getting away from it. Something could be worked out. Every game I've watched him actually play he's been far from the problem for WC. Fyfe would need to be taken out of the midfield because he's frankly close to cooked at this stage and needs to sit at full forward until he he's actually close to 100% IMO.

Half baked moves like Yeo are the exact sort of thing we do over and over again and wonder why we never go forward. He's had 3 separate injuries this year having missed the majority of the 3 previous seasons.

If we were coming off a top 6 finish, not losing any notable players this year and Yeo had strung together 30 games then it's worth the punt. Coming off bottom 4 and desperately needing to blood young mids and forced into playing a cooked Fyfe and B- JoM, we just can't carry the risk of someone like Yeo. Even if he comes off, he's not that good that he propels us from where we are to finals.

I would literally only take him on 300k with the understanding he only plays if 95% fit.

Works for me with maybe 100k of wiggle room =p

I wouldn't discount the idea that WC pay to salary dump Yeo. But that's tricky because who would they spend the money on and why wouldn't we want THAT player.
It could be used to buy Fiorini and pick 7-10 (or whatever it is at season end). If that top GC pick requires later picks for points AND taking salary then we are probably out of the running there

But why would that work for West Coast?

Explosive athlete that heavily relies on athleticism to be good and has significant soft tissue history already at 29. Dude could easily struggle to play another 20 games from here and even if he does, it's probably broken up with limited continuity.

Pass.

But why would that work for West Coast?
Because capspace can be used to buy picks and he's not going to be aroudn for their push? The other thing that makes me think Merriman MIGHT be able to turn him around is that WC issues have to be as much systemic S&C issues as it is the older players they have. Gives it a slightly higher chance he can be fixed.

I'm not going to disappointed if it doesnt happen but i'll be ok if it does (for free)

I'd laugh if WC pay us pick #19 to take Yeo, paying some of his salary and then Yeo can play a big bodied role for us around the ground.
Why would they? They can keep pick 1 or move it on for two picks, and use
Pick 19.
Yeo isn’t on the same coin as McGovern, better to move on Gaff, Hurn.
Unless they have salary cap issues? 90 percent of their team aren’t even B
graders, or big earners.
In one draft they could take a ruck/forward and two midfielders, etc.
A grade draft night, and chase English in 2025. Taylor 2026.
By 2027 rebuild complete.
