Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Only... cough.. three goals extra a game.

Our mids need to leak less, or we can be so dominant in the clearances that it doesn't matter if we let them score from a bounce clearance - it just comes back to the bounce again and we continue dominating. Even two goals to one out of there will be a huge win for us by the end of the game.
seems like a winning strategy to me, just win the centre clearance and kick a goal so you can win the next centre clearance and kick a goal so you can win the next centre clearnace and kick a goal

I wouldn’t mind one more genuine natural forward tbh. Emmett has played two games, Sturt hasn’t really 100% confirmed he’s a 150+ game player and Walters has two seasons left. Things change quickly in the AFL and while I like how the forwardline is shaping we are going to be held back unless we find a rolled gold 40+ option from somewhere to help Amiss(that can be internally or externally)
If we had an early pick, I'd definitely be keen on a true forward, but not sure if one will be available at 21.

You thinking someone like Collard?

Agreed.

5 players kicked over 20. Sturt, Switta and Treacy kicked over 15 goals each.

That’s a fair share of goal kickers.

Need more from the mids.
Tbh Sturt actually playing more like he did in the last month all season would be massive.

There might be enough options that we can rest Walters more frequently too, hopefully keeping him at his best for more of the season. As long as Walters can play 4-5 good games in a row he's bloody valuable still.

My biggest concern potentially is whether Freddy is a loss from the forward line. Assuming Henry leaves there's basically no option other than moving him to wing imo

Emmett is kicking 60 next year
Although I like what he brings up the ground not sure you can count on him to be up amongst our leading goal scorers next year.

He isn't always going to get free kicks directly in front all the time to score from and hopefully will retain his accuracy up to this point.

Probably kick around as many as switta when he was in form, which was not this year

Speaking of our mids we've barely had a goal a game from them as a group. It wouldn't be 1.5.

Considering Brayshaw is going at almost 0.5 himself that's pathetic by the rest of that group. Think Johnson has it in him. Got to get more goals from Serong and Darcy.

The forward line isn't far off the goals we need but the midfield needs to make a contribution as well.

We have only had 7 seasons including this one where we’ve had 5 players kick over 20 goals. Shows there’s plenty of avenues.

(95, 03, 04, 05, 06, 22 and 23)

Our fwd was the best it was under Connolly..shows we are getting better in that department.
Obviously the difference between 2023 to a 2006 is the main target kicking 60 plus, apposed to 41. Amiss development into a prolific FF will be the difference.

I think we should just keep Hamling. KPD is very in demand atm, so I doubt we'd find one for cheap.
We’d be crazy to get rid of him if he will stay on a 12 month contact. 2 backup developing KPF’s could cost us dearly if we get a few injuries. Unless they think Treacy or Tabs can play KPD.

North will probably offer him double the money on a 2-3 deal when McKay leaves.

One of the best things about our team is how unreliant we are on any one player other than maybe Amiss. It's probably my favourite part of JL's coaching - he spreads the loads really well. So while I do think we could role with our current forward line, I also think just a touch more class would go a long way.

Ideally, the class forward is the same player as the linebreaking mid but that's probably too much to ask for from pick 20odd.

I really like Delean, he'd be my first pick. Could be a Toby Greene type but yeah, any genuine forward at our first pick for me. Happy to spend the other picks on best available or anything around getting more back 6 talent

Arghhhh so Frustrating we cant get Aaron Naughton in. Seriously team would basically be complete with him in it. Keep Jackson further up the ground and play him as a mid who drifts forward. Seriously having that marking presence forward would change the team entirely.

Sturt Treacy Schultz
Amiss Naughton Walters

Bring in the likes of Emmett and Walters off the bench as he ages.

Don’t no why naughton keeps getting brought up. He’s not coming

Lets use the Henry draft capital on 2x good 22-25 year old with 80 games experience. My rose coloured glasses are telling me we are fast approaching a window so stuff going to the draft. 1 excellent winger (like better than Aish and Henry) and 1 good forward (like better than Treacy and Corbett) would be the go. Any ideas?

If somebody straightened up Naughton's kicking he would probably be considered the best player in the AFL. He really is that good.
He kicked 44.33 this year...not the best, but not the worst either.

If he kicked a bit straighter he wouldn't come close to being the best player in the comp. Even though he has one of the best clearance midfields working in front of him.

The cost of the draft capital to get him would be way more than the value he would provide to us.

That would make it a bad trade.

What would you pay, in draft capital, to get Naughton?
Honestly whatever it takes and more. So say we get 20-30 for henry.

Future first, Future Second, Pick 21 and Henry Pick for Naughton.

I get thats probably still not enough but would take someone else to leave.

He is in a team littered with talls and goal kicking mids. Id have him kicking 60-75 goals for us if he came in.

So you'd be happy to pay everything we have, plus everything we're going to have, plus more to get him?

That would be Freo through and through so I get where you're coming from.

Thing is you know what your gonna get with Naughton. We should be coming into the years where we should be challenging and another 40+ goal a year forward to help Amiss is needed. Do people see Treacy as a player capable of kicking 40+?

I think Dogga and Treacy can definitely combine for 60.

I'm not trading our entire present and future, and essentially making Treacy a depth player, for Naughton. He's a good player, not an elite player.
