Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

He would be an awesome get. Maybe our footy department already has him on the target list along with Georgiades and Naughton. Personally I hope Sturt and Treacy can lift enough to make them both unnecessary. Certainly wouldn't want to be reamed at the trade table for a contracted Naughton.
I'd take Pickett over Naughton or Georgiades at this stage I think.

Pickett to Port might end up growing legs. We would be monitoring that situation closely as well. Henry is good mates with Pickett.

If Pickett ends up going to Port. One the names mentioned by Ryan Daniels Georgiades might be an option for us. Wouldn’t cost more than an early second I reckon.

I really can’t see us being a player for Naughton at the end of 2023. The cost will be too much to throw away all draft assets for essentially three years running (2022, 2023, 2024). That would be terrible just management.

True.... But if there was a need. Might as well take it.

If there was a mature aged ruckman that's 21-25 years old in the WAFL, why not take the chance and give the dude an 18 month contract?

If it doesn't work, at least we tried.

We still struggled to score goals last season, despite making finals.

It's not like Freo didn't use 1st round picks to draft or trade players in our 2016-21 rebuild. Most of them sadly didn't work out.

Quite a few prominent posters around here were pretty adamant that the mid season draft was crap but I think the first dozen or so picks are somewhere around early 3rd rounder value in the normal draft

That 6 month audition to have a look at youngsters playing senior footy or overage types who start hitting their straps is very useful

The reasons the club gave for not taking someone seemed pretty dumb TBH

Given Pickett is out of contract whichever club secures his nomination will be doing a deal with whatever they can on the last day of the trade period after lots of huff and puff.

Every club can trade their future first this next off season, so Melbourne will probably prefer Port is his nomination and then Peter Bell will say "we really rate Kosi and would love to have him at Freo" so Melbourne can try and leverage the risk of Freo offering a deal for him too.

But really, I think it's us and Melbourne will just have to suck it up - they'll also flip that scenario above to try and leverage Port's PSD pick to get a better price out of Freo as though that isn't a worse outcome for Melbourne but it will play well with the supporters.

So expect a week of Melbourne walking around with the chest out talking big and then the deal going down for whatever is available.

He was drafted at pick 12 so you would say he is worth between the 10-12 range right? What would we trade to land him?

If I told you that he compares to Schultz for team score impact, meaning that goals plus goal assists equals the same for both of them, does it mean Pickett is worth less or does it mean Schultz is worth more?

Melbourne will look to play him through the middle a bit this season because a small forward in a side without dominant marking talls, that literally plays a style designed to bring the ball to ground in the pockets, will lead to small forwards getting more involved - but small forwards don't get traded for bulk high value generally speaking.

There's a lot of scope for Pickett to improve, so I think his value would be our first and a second. I'd start by offering our future first. I think they pillaged us a bit on the Jackson trade so I'm thinking that:

Jackson, Pickett for three firsts and a second is fair value.

That seals it for me. Give him No. 33. :thumbsu:
Should note that SEN has lost a lot of credibility with all their fluff pieces. Despite being from WA, I think he has stronger ties to South Australia so a move there would make more sense. I will still shill for him on this board!

Do or die year for Sturt in my opinion, he needs to be delisted if he doesn't get enough games or show enough.

Port has SFA currency as well
Adelaide has like 6 small forwards

Maybe west coast a chance?
A pick for Georgiades would give them currency.

They really don’t have many small forwards. They traded in Junior Rioli.

They have Fantasia who struggles to get on the park.

Then Jed McEntee who is 22 played 10 games and kicked 5 goals.

Who do you think he was staying with when he came back to WA when his mother passed away?

There's plenty of reason to be in WA.

Nothing new or interesting in that article apart from him not wanting to sign anything before end of season. It's never ceases to amaze how Australian sports "journalists" get to write so much meaningless drivel
"It is extremely unlikely for anything to happen this year with two years left on his contract."

I just thought this line was interesting. Didn't rule out anything for next season but again It's a nothing article.

Yeah, that bit was interesting, but then Ralph turned into a "bad luck Freo" piece out of nothing.

That sen article is probs worse for saying absolutely nothing

Again, nothing wrong in taking a 19 or 20 year old on a 1 and a half year deal

Why did GC play such hardball with Jeremy Sharp. The guy played average last week and not in the PS team today vs GWS so not in their preferred round 1 team. Didn’t play a lot last year and they wanted a second round pick. Good on Freo for leaving it too late and leaving a third round pick on the table as a take it or leave it.

Not sure what will happen. Some rumours he isn’t happy that trade didn’t eventuate so may end up at the Eagles but either way doesn’t bother me much and likely he will end up being traded for third round pick at best.
