Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

The reason a club would lose a player of his capability is the same reason a club shouldn't look to bring him in. There needs to be a story of a personality clash at the club because everyone else will be very interested to run a medical and get a hair sample.
Who cares? Best mid in the comp imo, if not he's top 3 mid, easily... Would improve our side immensely.

The last time we took a troubled contracted superstar from Melbourne we managed to effectively turn a two time brownlow medallist into nothing...

If the rumours are even close to having any substance, and part of the reason this is an option for Melbourne to cut and run, he's one bad test away from a major suspension.

We all want Collard.

When was the last time Wallsy took the bloke we wanted the most?
I know I need to shut up about him. If I see him tearing it up at the Weags I will lose my shit though.

And gifted Melbourne a premiership (May), and Brisbane a shot at one.

Eh, I don’t think we do I think are club has a good enough midfield and don’t think Oliver is the one for us.
On talent, I would never turn down Oliver. He is a top 5 player in the game and an absolute superstar. For the same reason, if Melbourne are ok with letting him go, he is beyond radioactive and we are not the club that can put sufficient lead around radioactive players

I think Oliver would improve every side immensely, not least of which is Melbourne who currently have him contracted until the end of the decade on really good money.

It would be like Fremantle entertaining a trade for Fyfe in 2014 except he is also contracted until the end of the decade.

It would only make sense for Melbourne to do that if they have had reason to not trust Oliver's future availability or output and that is a massive warning siren to anyone seeking to bring him in.

If that reason is closer to Chris Yarran then it offers an explanation better than that a club in it's window seeks to move on a contracted player, one of the best in the competition for "no reason".

So 1 out of ~10?

Doesn't look good. I'm just trying to temper my expectations because I'm going to be shattered when we don't end up with Collard.
If we don't get him, I just hope it's for a decent reason and not "character concerns".

We need to be drafting on a needs basis now and not best available. There are no absolute needs around pick 10 (pick 12 on the night). If you trade out 22 and 40, you will lose access to Collard.
Looking at the power rankings on rookieme, that pick 10-15 range looks an awkward spot to be for our list needs. I don't want to draft anyone they have listed from 9-18 due to a combination of their size/position.

I would actually prefer lower ranked players such as Hardemann (19), Tholstrup (23), Edwards (24), Collard (27). And if they can be picked in the 20-30 range, I don't see the value in trading the farm to move up and pick someone less suited to our needs.

The only logic would be if we want Edwards (my favourite outside Collard) and he is going to go much higher than he is currently being ranked. There are only a few highlights and his output might be less. But he has size, power and burst speed. Has been compared to Max Holmes, and if that's what clubs project they are getting, then I suspect he might go a fair bit higher than people are predicting.

this trade period sucks so bad they have to make up Clayton Oliver stories to fill up space lmao.

No.

We have a player on our list. Not AB, not Serong who will be the biggest player in the comp.

No one has a higher ceiling on our list and possibly in the league. Stands at 192 and slid to us. Watch him in 2 years time!
Very interested to see what his height is when they update the website next year.
