Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Yep, we desperately need to get Cox locked.
He signed on for two more years a year ago. And he also signed for two years like 10 months before that. I think it's likely he actually sees out a lot more of this contract before signing on again, esp with free agency at the end of it. Luke ryan wouldn't have been a FA at the end of his contract so it'll be a diff scenario.

If you bring in one player to finish off our list, what position would it be and who and why?

For me the position is a dangerous forward, kicks goals, who can play forward.

Next option is a gun small forward.

Why. We need more class in our forward line. If he can run through the midfield it is a bonus.

Who?
Heeney.
Papley
Or someone of that ilk would be perfect.

I think Taberner, Jackson and Amiss cover our forward line.

Jeremy Cameron or Tom Lynch and we would have our first flag imo.

McFarlin was 192, Hamling 194, and Dawson 197.

Not a single 200cm among them.

Myth Busted.
Michael Johnson was around 193cm.

Dawson mainly fought the full forwards or the 200 cm rucks in the goal square. He wasnt agile but did the job.

McPharlin had the agility and skills to face both talls and smalls. Same with Johnson.

Fully agree. I have no questions about or team apart from “can we kick the goals?”
I think every new player drafted should be investigated for any possible forward craft. Yes even Davies and knobel and Reidy. Let’s not pideon hole a guy into a preconceived position based on his junior career.
ANYTHING that could improve our goalkicking issues is worth a look. If we falter in 2023 it will be down to a poor conversion rate in front of goals. Nothing more certain even at this early stage.

Both Reidy and Draper said they are forwards in their respective videos. Reidy was played as a ruck at Frankston out of necessity

People get to hung up on length of contract.
Like hipwood at lions I’m sure the length was given because the money was less.
Let’s not start eating our own before we’ve won anything.
It terrible that a bnf winner AA for our club is thought of by some.
After giving 3 year deals to hogan Bennell Dardy and under paying Neale
It’s a step in the right direction.

Let’s just sort cox out then back the truck up with all the rest of the cash and block Caleb’s driveway until he signs.
Cox 3 year extension
Serong 4 year extension
Recontract Fyfe and Walters on reduced deals and who ever launches their career this year out of Henry Treacy Sturt give them goods.
If not keep some kanga for a play at George zuurhaar or McDonald.
My calcs have us peaking 2024-2027.
I don’t believe we will drop off because we have 2 AFL standard players that love the game for ever position now.
I’ve got a very good feeling about max knobel too.
Carn the Anchors 💜⚓🏆💜⚓🏆

Isn’t Cox contracted until 2024? I feel nothing is happening in the short term tbh.

Stop talking sense.
Luke Ryan would walk into the 25 since 95 side if selected right now yet people are complaining about paying the man what is almost certainly slight unders per year even if it’s for the next 5 years.
Just nonsense talk really.
Meanwhile Banfield and Hughes are on the list for the next 2 years and probably won’t play a game 😳

I think motivation can be an issue for some players, especially if they end up becoming fringe. Maybe towards the end of his contract Ryan may become fringe/depth, but it's worth the risk.

Throughout his contract period we can expect to contend for finals, and that would be powerful motivation.

He brings a different kind of leadership to our side, especially on field. A young defender coming in and getting to play alongside Ryan is about as good as it gets.

Serong be signed soon.
None of this holding off bullshit that leaves even 1% of doubt.
Acres and Logue tried this.
Wdym? Logue wanted to sign at the beginning of the year but club told him to wait.

Surely the Serong signing is imminent. He’s in every single photo opp the club is doing at the moment. Would be some about-turn to decline a signature like Cerra did and drag it out for the season before leaving…
