Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Agree think the only thing that makes him a target is because he doesn’t cost any picks

Tbh I wouldn’t be against the idea if we didn’t already have Luke Jackson on the books. He’d be fine as a third KPF and a back up ruck.

Problem is I think we need someone that can get us 2+ goals a game which I don’t think Himmelberg is capable of. Even if he costs no picks, its still probably 600k or so taken out of our salary cap for a player that is B Grade at best.

JOM been a disaster??? How? he went at 88% ball use Friday night. He hasn’t set the world on fire but saying it’s a disaster is a massive overreaction

I really don’t think disposal efficiency is great way to judge a player that’s supposed to be an inside midfielder tbh. Pretty sure GAJ went at around 60% and he’s probably imo the best player I’ve seen.

I think most would agree he was the wrong player to add when we already had Brayshaw, Serong and Brodie. Already looks harder than it could’ve been to fit a top ten draft pick in Erasmus into the side. Him and Johnson should’ve been backed in given the age of our list.

You can never have enough good mids…when a player like JOM wants to come to your club, you grab him. The hawks are pretty much paying for him to play for us! with The way freo use the footy his disposal effectively counts a lot. He also only played 81 mins out of 125… think he has been fine.

I put it to you that the difference between making the finals at all and not is a regular B grade tall forward who also has the ability to cover the defensive posts - which we are in real trouble with right at the moment.

I don't think we need a match winner tall forward, we produce enough opportunity. We just need someone at the drop of the ball to compete.

And it isn't like we have a 25 year old Lance Franklin we are looking past to pick up Himmleberg who was kicking 38 goals in a grand final year. Of course we would prefer Naughton or a young Tom Hawkins, one of the Kings but that isn't discussing viable options. Adding Himmelberg to the roster is adding a player to the top portion of the stack. It's replacing Rory Lobb as a forward with just money, not missing out on first round picks for three years in a row.

Rory Lobb kicked 36 in his best season for us, Himmelberg has done that or better twice. Taberner's best season was 37 goals.

I see him as the player that plays in the shadow of Amiss in a couple of years but will protect us from having to play an untried rookie as a key defender.

I’m sure we’d move Himmelberg back if really needed but you don’t recruit players on 600-700k because they’re a Jack of all trades, master of none.

Naughton is a pipe dream but Georgiades might not be.

I still rate Georgiades quite highly tbh. He’s a natural footballer and great athlete. He’s still 21. If we want to play a mobile forward line he’s a good option.

Port Adelaide are playing Dixon, Marshall and Finlayson ahead of him. Dixon and Marshall are guns. Finlayson wouldn’t be ahead of Georgiades if Port had any interest in either of the other two playing ruck. Georgiades is quickly heading the same way as Jordan Clark where an early second rounder and scraps might be enough.

I know Georgiades is supposed to be going to West Coast if he comes back to WA but so Rory Lobb originally preferred West Coast and look what happened. Money talks.

I just dont think Georgiades is that good to warrant us trading for him. We don't need yet another developing KPF we need someone who can slot right in.

I'd much prefer Himmelberg as a FA. Not happening but he'd be a better fit.

For whatever it’s worth good mates me with Raz, could help in the recruiting pitch.

Himmelberg has Georgiades covered on stats at the same age and has gone on to be better that, won't cost draft capital and if the money talks line means Georgiades needs to be lured with cash then the salary doesn't matter for each either.

I like Mitch but a trade is expensive considering there is a free option, if salary is equal between the two.

But let's explore it, how much less money does Goergiades need to be paid to justify the cost of the early second round pick it will require to get him assuming Himmelberg costs $600,000 a season for 4 years?

I think he would be worth that deal, but we might be required to pay more. Because the game's in Canberra this week all the GWS talk is about Himmelberg and GWS are focused on retaining him. Kingsley also seems to be a coach guys want to play for, for what that's worth.

I don't think they can afford to lose him, so I expect they will sign him for seven years plus.

If Schultz left as a FA to the east what would he likely be paid?
What compensation pick would we get, end of first round maybe??
As an UFA that teams can basically buy for free I'd see some world where someone like Hawks pays him 600k? I think it would be more likely to fall in the 3rd tier bracket and be after our 2nd. I think it's been mentioned he might have a trigger for an additional year anyway

I believe the bands are roughly:
Band One (First round): $850,000 per year+
Band Two (End of First round): $700,000 to $849,000 per year
Band Three (Second round): $550,000 to $699,000 per year

But that's fluctuating because it's based off the percentage of players in the age group earning that level of money.
