Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Honestly, silly post.
Amiss, Erasmus and MJ is still a decent haul.
Maybe should’ve trade someone to get up in the draft order.

Treacy desperately needs to come good.
Honestly, we should have had more picks from the mass exodus that should have jagged us JVR!

Ras and Treacy are unproven, Rooyen has kicked 9 goals in 4 games. Yes it's a bit nuffie but you give so much to the club and they continue to find ways to dissapoint you.

JVR will come home one day, Dees will be really scared to lose him so will wanna try and tie him down long term but there will be a spot in our forward line for him and some decent cap space so we should be able to tempt him

Yep and that's our problem. We rely on paying overs for forwards to come to our club instead of drafting the ones that play in our backyard.

Alright seriously * the campaigners at the club. How can unpaid nuffies on bigfooty rate Van Rooyen higher than the people paid at the club. Unforgiveable. Should be in Purple. Imagine picking up someone who has good highlights in a high school comp versus a player that kicked bags for fun in the WAFL.
JVR was rated around our third pick. Which is about where he went. Erasmus and Johsnon were rated around pick 10. And erasmus would've been taken by then too. Get over it.

Ras won't be unproven when he gets to play again. Our midfield isn't great or deep. We need the mids we picked.

Erasmus was a safe choice at the time. A goal kicking midfielder who is a good citizen and a hard worker. He would have been snapped up by the Eagles if not.

In hindsight it probably would have been best to go Amiss and JVR with our first picks but who knows whether Johnson would have slipped past the Dees. So we could be assessing Amiss/Erasmus/Johnson v Amiss/JVR/Goater. Which means we'd be lacking quality midfield depth. We can't have it all.

JVR's little brother is listed at 193cm. Might grow a bit more. Hard to imagine he isn't cut from the same cloth. Rookie me mentions he has the same sort of characteristics with potent leap/mark/attack on the ball. Has kicked 3, 2 and 5 at Colts. Would be my number one target right now. Might need to get him to slow down.

I think the question would be more why we didn’t draft a KPF in the first or second round in the first five years of a rebuild.

We should have someone around 23-24 playing in the team entering their prime right now.

Maybe next time we rebuild we should actually think about the list we’re building rather than draft what they term as ‘best available’ and just hope we have enough bases covered when we’ve finished rebuilding.

We drafted a guy in 2016 who looked to be a pretty promising Key Forward as a teenager. Was a pick in the 40s but you know...hidden gems etc. Instead of committing to him and developing him we sold the farm for Hogan and Lobb and pushed him to the side after a couple of injuries and then bought him back the next year as a defender.

I wonder what he could've been like if we persisted with him up there. Always was a very good contested mark.

And on your first point, Logue has got to be the most uninspiring first pick of a rebuild.

Hope Goldcoast or GWS draft him..

We never needed a key defender in 2016 so Logue is exactly what I’m talking about tbh. We didn’t need one with Pearce, Hamling and Collins on the list. If we wanted more depth we should’ve gone later in the draft.

We’ve constantly had too many of one type on our list imo. We’ve had too many KPDs, too many HBFs, too many rucks and too many mids. We’ve probably got too many KPFs atm, which is somewhat ironic as we still need another good one.

Too many project KPFs*

Undersized KPF in Georgiades?? No thank you..

Still have nightmares of our forward line being made up of either third talls (Mayne, Kersten, McCarthy, Anthony) or converted ruckmen (Griffin, Apeness, Strnadica).

I think the whole 'third, forth, first second' talls status thing is rubbish tbh.

So many more variables to consider there than height/weight.

If Georgiades comes back from his ACL well enough, he'd be good Sturt depth.

Yep. We should've had the balls to take JVR with Amiss at pick 8 and 10.
JVR was rated in the 20’s in his draft year. Melbourne have done a great job developing him. I’m sure Erasmus will end up being a great player for freo

Could always try to draft his brother this year

Luke Ryan's cousin kicking goals in the VFL. Mid season draft chance?
Reads the ball well in the air.
Small jump.
200cm, but fairly mobile
Was playing country football 18 months ago.
Kicks straight.

The question is probably if you had a 25 year old Ben Brown would you take him?

Could he , Jackson and Amiss play in the same forward line?
