Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

He's really not, he's like the exact opposite of that based on reading/watching anything about him pre-draft. Pearce is a lock down, ordinary interceptor with poor skills. Davies is a great interceptor with good skills who can't defend. He's the guy Jefferson kicked 7 on in the U18 games.
I watched a few of his games at Christ Church, and I reckon there is potential for midfield.
He's got a big body, and reads the play well. That's why they started him back, but whenever they were getting smashed he'd go to the centre bounce.
He's got potential, but he was a wildcard pick

Hugh Davies

DOB: 28 September 2004 (18)
POSITION: Key defender
HEIGHT: 196cm
WEIGHT: 90kg
DRAFTED FROM: Claremont

Hugh Davies was the second highest rated key defender in the WAFL Colts competition behind Jedd Busslinger.

He rated elite for average disposals (19.0), disposal efficiency (80.7%), contested possessions (9.3), marks (5.3) and intercept possessions (9.0).

At School level for Christ Church Grammar, he was equally dominant averaging more than 22 disposals. He also averaged the most intercept marks in the PSA competition (4.3 per game).
His outstanding form at both levels was rewarded with selection in all four of WA's U18 Championships games and got better and better as the carnival went on.

He has shown significant improvement over the past 12 months and impresses with his elite composure and decision making, reading of the play, agility and clean hands.

He's 90kg!? Doesn't look like it.

Where did that report come from? It sounds alright for somebody who looks like Johnny Rotten, he might have potential after all.

IF they can teach him the basics of actual defending and not just intercepting, I'll be surprised if he isn't at least half decent. Chopping attacks and starting your own is one of the most coveted skillsets atm.

Not sure he'll get much of a look in the middle at AFL level though.

Maybe not, but he needs to make every post a winner.
That means, he needs to be flexible. He could play mid, not saying he will, but could!

Did Brockman only sigh a 1 year extension?
Heard he’s just had twins now also.
Be a big candidate to want to head home

He is also quick for his height, faster than Pearce by the looks of it.

I'd like Brockman.

He looks alright so far. Seems by the eye to have what it takes. I think we've got a good one with him and also Knobel.

No guarantee Johnson lasts past Melbourne's pick.
There were whispers he told recruiters he didn't want to leave WA. Why else would no other recruiter rate him? Much better than some of the mids that went before him.

Well... To state the obvious... I think we need to draft for size, speed and skill. I don't care where they're from, but historically, we've been more successful at drafting them.

Our most aggressive players are fairly short (e.g. Walters, Switta, Serong, Shultz, Aish). Walters shouldn't be intercepting kicks to tall opponents or marking on their heads in the forward 50. We need taller, stronger guys to do that. ... And if we have them, then they need to lift their game or go back to the WAFL.

He did a podcast a few weeks before talking about how he was actually very keen at the chance to get out of WA

I didn’t see a lot of him at Christchurch but what I did see you describe well. The game I did see they were dominant so he just floated around. The highlights I saw of his Claremont colts he was more close checking.

He did get towelled up by Jefferson. There was at least 1-2 goals where another KPD was on him and one of his teammates gave away a fifty. Jefferson looks like a good leading forward and the structure for WA in that game was a very open backline.

Watching him at Peel he is more lock down to the eye. As you say he has a lot of work to do in that area but doesn’t look out of place. Was average against Perth but I though he was ok aside from a touch of fumbles against SF. The weight of 90kg is a little deceiving but he is quite weak around the core and struggles to hold ground in one on one contests. I haven’t seen a lot of the intercept marks as yet so I find that promising to be honest. So far underwhelming but not too bad. Just my opinion based on what I’ve seen at Peel is he looks more like APearce. But maybe it is the fumbles that has given me that impression. I reckon he will be fine. He also looks like he would be more at home with an Xbox or studying maths.
